Apple TV Music Cannot Connect. Mac and iPad work. Phone says "no music in this playlist".

Apple TV running latest OS says, "Cannot Connect" Something went wrong. Please try again. I can try all day but nothing will change. My Mac works just fine, as does my iPad. My iPhone (15) says, "There's no music in this playlist". Anyone have a solution (or several)?

Talked to Apple Support. The workaround for now is to hit the "play/pause" button instead of the center (select) button. You lose shuffle, but the playlist does play from the top down.

Seems to be a bug in TVOS, so we have to wait for a fix. Rebooting, restarting, resetting to original don't work.

Hello Mike Heacox,

We have a great support article that might help with this. Please take a look at it here: If your Apple TV can't connect to Wi-Fi - Apple Support. Follow this guidance:

"Check that everything is on, connected, and in range

Make sure that that your internet router is connected to your modem and that both are powered on. If your router and modem are combined, make sure that the device is powered on.

If possible, keep your Apple TV and Wi-Fi router in the same room, but don't place your Apple TV directly on or within a foot of your router. Try to avoid physical obstructions in the path of your wireless signal, especially metal surfaces. If your Apple TV has an Ethernet port, connect your Apple TV directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable for the best experience.

Restart your Apple TV, router, and modem

After you restart each device, see if you still need help.

On the Apple TV menu, go to Settings > System and select Restart.

Unplug your router and your cable or DSL modem from power. Then plug them back in.

Use an Ethernet cable and check for software updates

If your Apple TV has an Ethernet port, try connecting your Apple TV directly to your router, or cable or DSL modem using an Ethernet cable. Apple TV connects to internet with either Wi-Fi or Ethernet. When you use an Ethernet cable, Apple TV automatically uses that connection instead of your Wi-Fi network.

Join your network and check for software updates. Go to Settings > System > Software Updates. If there's an update, install it. Then unplug your Ethernet cable and try to join your Wi-Fi network again."

We hope this helps. Let us know if we can assist with anything else at all. Take care.

Thanks for the tips. They didn't work (I already tried them before I posted).

  1. Everything is on and connected - nothing changed since when it last worked, in fact.
  2. Router rebooted
  3. TV 4K rebooted. No good.
  4. Reset to factory defaults + another reboot - force installed system updates, hopefully. Latest TVOS. No good.

Just to be really clear, everything works EXCEPT my iTunes music library. Apple TV, PBS, Amazon stream. Apple Music even loads my album art and playlists - it just refuses to play anything. Same stupid message, unknown error, try again. Seems like I never should have unplugged my CD player!

My phone (17.0.2) says, "No music in this playlist". No music anywhere, it seems!

My iPad (17.0.2) and Mac (Sonoma) will play the same playlist without any problems. Even if the iPad is near the AppleTV on the same network, so signal is OK (besides, it streams video just fine).

The Apple TV just says there's a problem, try again. But it does show album art - more than the iPhone will do.

Is anyone else having this problem who posted anywhere you can find it? A known bug with a fix?
