How to fix Call Log Sharing issue after updating iPhones to iOS 17.0.2

After me and my husband updated our iPhones 17.0.2. We are now sharing call logs again I don’t know how to make it stop because before I just adjusted the call settings to where it was only coming to my number. Please make it stop.

Hello Kyjrod,

If your call logs are showing up on someone else's device the root cause would be that you and the other person are currently logged into the same Apple ID account on the devices. An Apple ID account should never be shared with someone else. It is highly recommended that whoever the account doesn't belong to signs out of it and into their own account on their device.

Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, or Mac

Sign in with your Apple ID

With that being said, to stop the call logs from syncing you'll want to go to Settings > Phone and turn off the Calls on Other Devices option. Then go to Settings > name at the top > iCloud, and turn off the iCloud Drive option.

Cheers!

Turning off iCloud hasn’t worked for me. Shut it off two iPhones and two iPads all on the same AppleID and still the problem persists.

This is intentional from Apple and there is no setting you can use to fix it. Apple has said for more than a decade that two people should NOT share an Apple ID. You have two choices.

  1. Accept merged call logs/voicemail messages OR
  2. Separate to two different Apple IDs

Here is a link from a very respected member of the forum explaining in simple terms how to do this:

My wife and I share apple id and we BOTH HAVE ICLOUD TURNED OFF AND CALLS IN OTHER DEVICES OFF and call history still showing on each others phones. It’s annoying!!

Yep. You can either be annoyed or do what Apple has recommended for more than a decade and STOP sharing an Apple ID with your wife.

This link provides clear to follow directions on how to do that --> How to “unshare” an Apple ID - Apple Community

Or remain annoyed. Your choice.

That's correct. iOS 17 introduced this, but that doesn't mean Apple didn't intend for this to happen. Apple also updated this specific Support Article to include call logs and voicemail messages after iOS 17 was rolled out, which makes it clear Apple is not only aware of this, but it is clearly intentional --> Make sure that each family member has a unique Apple ID - Apple Support

On a personal note, I would NEVER permit a work phone to have the same Apple ID as my personal Apple ID. Doing so means your employer has legal access to your data, which I would never permit to happen. But maybe that's just me?

Reading this thread makes me wonder what people are thinking by saying stop sharing your Apple ID with your spouse or kids.

We are thinking that Apple says don't share Apple IDs. We are thinking that there is no other way to resolve the issue. None of that is commentary or judgment on why you've chosen to share an Apple ID. We are just stating facts.

There are too many good things about being on the same account, like quickly being able to find one another's devices (iPhones, Ipads, AirTags, etc...).

You can do that with Family Sharing. In fact, you can probably do most of those good things through Family Sharing.

Has anyone managed to get a solution to this I’ve got a work and personal phone on same Apple ID - iCloud off and calls on other devices .,, APPLE please fix as this wasn’t an issue on previous IOS

You're not writing Apple and they clearly have no intention of changing this. This is a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't actively participate. If you use the same Apple ID on multiple devices your device data will be shared as Apple designed it to do. You can tell Apple what you think in the link I'm providing, but I wouldn't hold my breath for any changes on this --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Not with the same e-Mail address! 🙃 You need two of those, too. Maybe it will be changed with the introduction of “Apple Account”?

Apple not wanting two people to share one ID is not the same as one person having multiple devices and wanting some separation of data for a good reason such as data privacy.

The missing feature to separate call logs by device is not inconvenient, it is inconsistent and customer-unfriendly. 🙃🤷‍♂️

Probably the reason why Apple added the switch for Phone & FaceTime in the iCloud Settings. 🧐

But yeah, your comments have been very constructive and helpful.

Cheers

Reading this thread makes me wonder what people are thinking by saying stop sharing your Apple ID with your spouse or kids. There are too many good things about being on the same account, like quickly being able to find one another's devices (iPhones, Ipads, AirTags, etc...). And remember this issue just started with recent updates so users are used to having some privacy. Turning off Calls on Other Devices and turning off iColud Drive doesn't work either.
