Bluetooth issues on my iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 17.0.3

I am having issues with bluetooth dropping the connection in my car and air pods pro since I upgraded my phone to iphone 15 PM and IOS 17.0.3. Any help would be greatly appreciated. this is my main phone and I can't take the chance of having unstable IOS build on it. Any suggestions or better yet can apple just make something that works as it should for $1200 thanks!

I’m up to date on iOS 17.1.2 and still having Bluetooth issues. It’s nearly impossible to use Bluetooth in my car at this point.

I appreciate this discussion, but....it's not just about faulty BT connection to cars.

That's not my problem. My problem is that my 15PM won't connect to a BT keyboard...and it's not just a problem with this or that individual phone ...I've complained about it enough that I'm on my 3rd brand new phone, compliments of Apple customer service...all of them with the same problem.

I'm up to date on the latest iOS, and I've badgered each keyboard maker (including Apple) until I'm blue in the face. It's not the keyboard.

Just thought I'd throw this into the discussion.

Absolutely appreciate your point dco12vik. I can only diagnose and investigate my own issue with my car as I don’t have a connected keyboard.

However, your problem might point to the same root cause in that your keyboard will use most likely use a more basic low data rate Bluetooth connection like BLE, as opposed to A2DP used for higher data streaming.

Just like my old car that uses two different connection profiles for media and telephone. The media connection is through a more modern A2DP Bluetooth streaming device.

I am the fifth person who ever posted in this thread and have been reading all the e-mail updates ever since.

I never dared to update my iOS because I was afraid the problems might get worse. The downside of that is that Apple won't help you if you don't update. I am now running 17.2.1. It hasn't gotten better or worse.

I talked to an amazing senior Apple engineer this week. He called me back twice and we ran two tests/logs and sent them to him. He and some other engineers are now looking into it. What I did was this: I wrote down the EXACT moments in time when the sounds started to mess up in my car using bluetooth. He said that will be very helpful when inspecting the logs that I sent to him the following day. Maybe we should all try to have the same thing done. This way the senior engineers etc. have a better shot at localising the problem. I am trying to figure out correlations as to when and where the bluetooth starts messing up. For example I notice that it start cutting out sound quicker when using Spotify instead of the native Music app. Of when I'm closer to my microwave for some reason.

But....you have to be 'lucky' to get a senior engineer on the phone that takes you serious, is willing to listen, and is willing to run these logs. But perhaps we should all start to demand this. Write down when the bluetooth messed up in a few occasions, call them and then send them the exact times. Perhaps this will give them a better chance of finding out what's going on here. It's driving me NUTS.

Kind regards and good luck to you all from Holland.

Hi! I’m from Italy, and I have iPhone 15 with iOS 17.2.1

I have already written other times on this forum.

My problem is not only with the Bluetooth car connection, but with any Bluetooth device I have used: AirPods, Beats solo3, Anker portable speaker,… all the same error: frequent disconnections, skipping audio, interference,… all problems that they increase as soon as I move the iPhone more than half a meter from the Bluetooth device.

I'm increasingly afraid that it's a hardware problem 😰

The plot thickens 🙄 I’ve arranged to return my iPhone 15 Pro Max to Costco due to the Bluetooth issues and as they wouldn’t do a replacement they advised me to just buy another phone.

My new phone arrived I setup the new phone by doing a direct transfer from the old phone to new phone and tested a Bluetooth phonecall in my car (2013 BMW 320d E92) and it worked!!! I need to do more testing as one phone call while stationary doesn’t give me 100% confidence but it wasn’t working with the previous phone which had the EXACT same installation.

If this is the case then it was clearly a hardware issue with the old phone 🤔 I’ll keep you posted how I get on over the next few days.

iPhone 15 Bluetooth Issue

When listening to music from Spotify on bluetooth, the music cuts out intermittently. To ensure this was not an problem with my vehicle, I suffered the same problem in my other car as well.

I have taken my phone to the Genius Desk and done the following:

-Reinstalled Spotify

-Verified the music playing was actually downloaded to my phone.

-Erased my phone and re-installed the OS, twice. All updates have been applied.

-This issue does not occur when listening to music on the phone's speaker

-I have a 2016 Porsche Macan and 2015 Porsche Cayman

I have performed more testing on my replacement iPhone 15 pro max today with several phone calls and it’s working absolutely fine… my issue must have been a hardware fault on the previous device, as it’s running the same (latest) iOS version and the same installation.

I did go for the black version rather than the titanium version with the intent of getting a phone from a different batch.

Not saying this applies to everyone’s problems, but my issue was clearly hardware related rather than software 🤔

Jan 14, 2024 1:13 AM in response to GLRawson

Just this week I have done exactly the same at the Apple Store, but with an iPhone 15 Pro, no Max.

It's over 4 months since I bought my phone.

I changed from Titanium to Black as well so there was more likely a difference.

Same poor BT performance for me.

And all of the pain of logging into dozens of apps again.

Is there a way of telling batch number or build of the iPhone?

How can anyone identify a "good one" so to speak?

Had a 13 Max Pro that never had bluetooth issues ever. I have an apple watch 8, Sony XM5, and airpod pro gen 2. They'd always instantly connect without issues as soon as they turned on/were taken out of their case. My apple watch never lost connection to my phone, always had live weather info, my sleep info never didn't record.

Got a free upgrade to the 14 Pro, then updated to ios 16 something and it started having bluetooth issues. Mostly ignored it because I had another free upgrade to the 15 Pro a few months away and figured the software issue would be fixed with updates. Nope.... It's only gotten worse.

Now I'm on the 15 Pro and currently on 17.2.1. All of my bluetooth devices almost never connect now. Not without rebooting my phone constantly, disconnecting and reconnecting them, or even having to fully reset things.

I've reset my network connections on my phone, forgotten all bluetooth devices and reset everything outside of fully backing up and flashing my phone.

Airpods will drop in drop out even when they do connect. I'll take one or both out of the case and they'll make the power up sound and even the connect sound, then just disconnect, or they won't even connect in the first place. I can be listening to them, answer a call, and they'll just disconnect.

I'll look at my apple watch and constantly see it not connected to my phone. It constantly doesn't record sleep info. The weather widget on my watch will constantly have no info and won't load. Even when it is actually connected to my phone they won't talk.

Sony MX5's no longer connect without rebooting my phone entirely.... Even with them showing connected in the bluetooth settings, they can't play anything and their app won't see them.

Oh and I can't use my Ford's bluetooth at all anymore, I have to use the apple car play with a physical connection.... And even that drops out sometimes...

This is nonsense and starting to get really frustrating!

Same. Ever since I upgraded to the iPhone 15 plus my Bluetooth no longer automagically connects to my 2010 GMC Yukon, a non CarPlay system. I have unpaired and repaired multiple times but I still have the same problem. And sometimes it won’t connect until several tries later. It’s ridiculous as I have never had this problem before. But…sometimes it also happens in my daughter’s vehicle which has car play. I don’t know if it’s software related but Apple needs to fix this. I didn’t just pay for a new phone outright to have Bluetooth connectivity issues. Please develop a patch Apple.

Previously when I tested a couple of phone calls (making and recieving) on my new replacement phone from my stationary car it seemed that my new phone was working fine.

That was until I received a call whilst driving yesterday and after 30 or so seconds into the call it dropped the Bluetooth connection 🤦🏼‍♂️

Im going to have to do some more testing, apart from the phone switching from mast to mast while travelling I’m not sure what else would allow it to work while stationary but not when travelling 🤔

Back to square 1, looks like it’s not a hardware fault unless it effects all or most phones 🙄
