Bluetooth issues on my iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 17.0.3

I am having issues with bluetooth dropping the connection in my car and air pods pro since I upgraded my phone to iphone 15 PM and IOS 17.0.3. Any help would be greatly appreciated. this is my main phone and I can't take the chance of having unstable IOS build on it. Any suggestions or better yet can apple just make something that works as it should for $1200 thanks!

I’m up to date on iOS 17.1.2 and still having Bluetooth issues. It’s nearly impossible to use Bluetooth in my car at this point.

Update: iPhone 15 Pro with 17.3 installed.

2014 Ford Escape with Sync 4.3 running.

Today I was finally able to connect the phone, receive (and maintain) a call, and listen to music from the phone through the car's system. This was the first time I have been able to connect to the car since getting the 15 Pro.

In order for this to happen I had to delete ALL of the paired devices (which was only 1). Once there were no other phones paired I was then able to pair my phone.

My partner's phone is running 17.2.1 and she had no issue connecting. Next step will be for me to see if I can reconnect her phone to the car.

Not sure what the explanation is...

Received an update from engineering. Their response was that unless it was reproducible (on my end) with other bluetooth devices, such as speakers, AirPods, that “no further action” was needed from them. I used back on this. First, because my AirPods do work fine, because, well, duh, they’re using a different bluetooth chip and a different bluetooth standard, and second, because the same bluetooth stuff worked just fine with my 14 Pro, and it’s using the same software.

The advisor is reaching out to engineering for an answer to my question - does this mean Apple basically is saying that anyone with a slightly older car (keep in mind in my particular case the same bluetooth system was used until 2016) will not be able to use bluetooth? Because if so what is their solution, to buy a new car? Unless they would like to cut a nice check for 2 new cars, I’d say no. I will keep pushing back for as long as it takes…

Will update the thread with a response.

I hate to burst the proverbial bubble but this is not a vehicle specific issue. It is across the board and is a hardware software issue. At least in my case with the dodge connect the Bluetooth will error out and the system says error and then reconnects a short time later on its own. As for all my other Bluetooth devices I have an issue with the connections doing the same thing. Song keeps playing on phone but skips in the sound being played out loud. Bluetooth is losing connection. I have tried everything apple has suggested. Currently up to date on 17.3 as it just came out. Nope problem persists. Only an issue when I upgraded to this $1900 phone should have stayed with my 13 pro max. Apple says that they don’t have an issue. The techs say my 15 works fine. When I asked if it was a pro max she stated it was a 15 then rudely disconnected. The same way apple has with its new philosophy that the customer doesn’t matter and we can use them to find the bugs. Let’s just take their money. I wish I had found this within the first 30 days, but my first response was it must be something with my receiver. I have replaced receivers adapters and such. One common issue and price of equipment. The 15PM. Have the same issue duplicated across 8 vehicles ranging from 2020 to 2024. Dodge to Chevy to Nissan and even a Kia

Yeah same, bluetooth cuts out for a few seconds but then cuts back in, but constantly. And my touchscreen lags now too. I’m going to Apple today to see if they’ll replace my phone. This is ridiculous, and iOS 17.3 didn’t do a **** thing for it either. Never in my life did I ever think I’d consider leaving Apple for Samsung but I’ve been seriously considering it after iOS 17.

I'm done.

After endless tech support calls...replacing my 15PM THREE (3) times, and watching this forum closely...I'm selling my iPhone, and getting a Samsung Galaxy S24Ultra.

Am I sad to leave the iPhone community? Yes. I've been around since the 1st iPhone. But this level of disregard to customer complaints about BT is untenable.

So I've cancelled all my subscriptions, and uploaded or transferred all my content.

I'm a Windows guy anyway, and Samsung is much more friendly to my PC.

Ebay, here I come!

I have opened a support case with Apple regarding Bluetooth issues on my iPhone 15 Pro. I have followed up multiple times with the case number, but I have yet to receive a solution.

I visited the local Apple store's Genius Bar where they reset my iPhone to its factory settings, erasing all data. Just like buying an iPhone for the first time. However, this did not resolve the Bluetooth issue, and I had to reinstall all my apps manually since no iCloud was restored.

I am unsure if the Apple support and engineers monitor community sites where people post updates.

I suggest that we all open support cases for the Bluetooth issue to grab Apple's attention. This is the only way Apple engineers can focus on a resolution and provide us with software/firmware updates.

Troubleshooting iPhone Bluetooth and CarPlay:

A. Re-Add as a Trusted Device:

On your car, you may need to remove this as a Trusted Device in your car's stereo. Do so, and then add it back.

B. Visit these Links:

C. Reset All Network Settings to Default:

Example of items that will be reset: (Wi-Fi Passwords, VPN Connections, etc)

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Tap: General
  3. Tap: Reset
  4. Tap: Reset Network Settings.
  5. Enter: [Your Passcode]

Just had a call with a support agent about the issue. Seems they are not yet aware of a general problem. He suggested the following procedure:

  1. deactivate VPN connection (from McAfee)
  2. remove all bluetooth devices (besides Apple Watches) from the list
  3. deactivate bluetooth
  4. restart iPhone
  5. reconnect my devices (which is my BMW, my Beats fit Pro and other bluetooth devices)

I'll try that one out and see if it fixes the issue. If not - i have a case number where i will post a follow up to Apple if the "problem solving" failes once again.

Going to list here what works and doesn't work for me.

  2. iPhone 14 - no connectivity issues
  3. iPhone 15 - no connectivity issues
  4. iPhone 15 Pro
    • Phone disconnects from after 40 seconds during calls, reconnects after 10 seconds and maintains stable connection for the duration of the call.
    • Car telephone controls (console / steering wheel) lose functionality, display locks up.
    • Apps that disconnect after 40 seconds include: Phone, Siri, WhatApp
    • To be verified: Facetime calls - I have received a couple of Facetime calls as a test and they remained connected. Need to do some more tests, but wondering if Facetime, due to the video element, uses a different connection profile with the car rather than the expected Hands Free Profile. Need to test some more, just thinking aloud folks.

Key points for me are that (1) the 15 Pro always disconnects at 40 seconds into a call (I recognise others have differing timelines) and (2) the reconnection ALWAYS remains stable for current and future calls. In my configuration, the iPhone 15 Pro IS CAPABLE of maintaining a stable connection AFTER reconnection.
