Bluetooth issues on my iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 17.0.3

I am having issues with bluetooth dropping the connection in my car and air pods pro since I upgraded my phone to iphone 15 PM and IOS 17.0.3. Any help would be greatly appreciated. this is my main phone and I can't take the chance of having unstable IOS build on it. Any suggestions or better yet can apple just make something that works as it should for $1200 thanks!

I’m up to date on iOS 17.1.2 and still having Bluetooth issues. It’s nearly impossible to use Bluetooth in my car at this point.

You're Not the Only One:

I'm seeing quite a few reports of power issues n relaunch to after installing the iOS 17 updates. Question is: "Just how many people have actually reported it to Apple?"

So, Inform Apple of This:

Do your Part. Give Apple feedback on this. Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what issues are occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of your issue, if you don'r report it to Apple.

How to Give Feedback:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - Apple Music - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for "Feedback Type"
  3. Select: "Browse" for "What Apple Music feature is your feedback about?"
  4. Comment: that this all started after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread.
  5. Proceed from there as necessary

I'm two months into this. Have posted quite a few times. Had BT issues since the start with my IP15P after trading up from IP11. Was on the phone with Apple several times, logs taken, troubleshooting, IOS updates, you name it. Banging my head against the wall with this. Going nuts!

On Monday I decided to call them again, just to follow up, since I haven't heard anything from Apple, and after I did the 17.2 upgrade (which didn't help). The support person read through my case and thought it was time for a new phone. He booked an appointment for me at the Apple Store for the same night. I went. What happened there was interesting. They set-up the replacement phone and transferred only the essentials, pics, contacts, etc. They did not do NFC transfer, like was done when I purchased the phone, this time only my info, no apps, came in from stored info on icloud. Apps would need to be manually installed. Reason being, as they told me, if something was contaminated in the old phone, they did not want to transfer it to the new phone.

It's two days now and I know it works flawlessly. Somehow, the original IP15 I purchased hiccuped after the NFC transfer and never worked properly. I'm not an expert here but it all makes sense to me now. Just want to pass this along.

Try submitting a bug report. I have done it some weeks ago but I guess we need to make noise on more important spaces such as MacRumors forums.

I can’t believe more people don’t have this problem!. Is it a Bluetooth chip from

certain supplier the problem?. Why so few propels has this issue???.

it makes the phone features of a smart phone unusable!.

For me, only in my car I have the constant disconnects, but it works perfectly with AirPods Pro and my Max. What gives?. iOS 17.2.1. iPhone 15 pro max. My 14 PM was fine.

Return the phone. By now is clear Apple does not see this bug.

The problems I'm having relate to maintaining a stable bluetooth connection between apps (SiriusXM, radio stations) on my phone and my Homepods. I will include also the phone speaker cutting out during calls, which started at the same time as the breaking up of bluetooth connections. I thought it was a problem with my speaker, but it has to do with the bluetooth software.

By the way, both times I tried the link to file a bug report, all I saw was an empty white page.

I have opened an Apple support case, everyone who is following this thread should call Apple and open a Bluetooth issue regardless of which iPhone model.

It's iOS 17. x issue, Apple will acknowledge and provide update.

I have tried all kinds of options to resolve the BT issue so far issue has not been resolved.

Happy Holidays.

Well tried talking with Apple support. Was told that they are having no issues with the blue tooth so it is something I have done. So much for acknowledging the problem. Representative even was like I have a 15 and no issues with bluetooth. Funny my other iPhone that has been updated also is having issues with blue tooth and prior to the new iOS update 17 it had no issues. IPhone 13pm. Also had a horrible attitude. Out right called me a liar. But hey thinking the last time I spend $2k on another iPhone. At least with a Samsung I know what issues I get for less. And their watches are cheaper too lol.

I truly am disappointed in how Apple has handled this reported issue. Over 1300 people in this group alone are having the same issue, but according to the rep we are all lying.

Andy, My Audi is a 2011. Same issues but I also have other Bluetooth issues with some portable speakers and my AirPods Pro, so I do not think it's an Audi/VW/Porsche problem. As I have posted in here many times, I went to bother the Genius Bar and have called Apple 3 times since buying this piece of junk 15 MP at release. No issues found, they all say they never heard of the issue (BS) bla bla bla. One tier 2 support guy even lied to me and said as I was arguing with him on the phone as he telling me my phone is fine, he says that he just found a bulletin on this issue and it will be resolved in a future update. Satisfied I was good with that. This was 3 mass releases ago. I had to call Apple for my son's watch and the excessive battery drain the other day and the tier 2 woman I spoke with and told her my plight with the 15PM and how they said there was an acknowledged issue, she said sorry but that's not true and I said so the support guy that gave me this info just wanted me off the phone. She said I can't say that but no bulletin exists. She told me to just keep calling and complain and eventually they are going to have to acknowledge an issue. I can confirm I have the very latest software on my phone and it is not fixed. Back to your experience with new phones and clean installs, she had suggested that but you are not the first in this tread to have to go through the painful process and I refuse to do that. My initial swap from the 14PM to the 15 PM was a nightmare where information that is supposed to transfer did not and I pretty much had to start from scratch. And this isn't my first rodeo. I have upgraded many many iPhones since the first and have never experienced such issues. This is definitely a stain on Apple's reputation.

Excellent, that rules out country, network providers and dual sims. But ironically my car is also 2013, but it’s a BMW not VAG.

There’s a good chance though that multiple vehicle manufactures could have been using Bluetooth chips produced by the same manufacturer or built to a certain standard at that time.

Either way my car has worked with several iPhone models, and several android handsets over the past 10 years or so without any issues whatsoever. The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max and operating system should be backwards compatible.

So many people on here are reporting Bluetooth issues connecting with other devices both old and new, so there seems to be more to this than just the Bluetooth connections with 2012/2013 vehicles.

Maybe there are multiple issues at play here which maybe why Apple are struggling to get to grips with the issues.

My previous phone was an iPhone 12Pro - it worked flawlessly with the car on iOS16.X

The lead Mechanical engineer had an iPhone 15 Pro Max. At that stage we were both running 17.1.2

His phone connected without issue.

Mine didn't.

I've had an ALL NEW PCM head unit replaced by the dealer (under extended warranty), and checked on Firmware updates.

Has not helped.

But it diminishes my thoughts of the car being the issue.

My guess is still the phone.

And either it being a batch of Bluetooth transmitter receivers or crap software.

Interestingly, if a person calls me, and the car initiates the communication to the phone, it seems to be stable.

When the phone initiates the communication to the car it fails 9/10.

The immediate sign is that the car stereo continues to play and doesn't mute the music/radio whilst dialling and connecting, despite the car and phone both clearly showing icons that BT connection is in place.

This says to me that the BT protocol coming from the phone is flawed.

I'm concerned it's the Bluetooth hardware still, as that's the sort of thing that no manufacturer would want to own up to and face massive product recall and replacement issues.

Meanwhile, I'm praying a software upgrades comes and fixes it.

Or I'm seeking a full refund against an iPhone 16 in September.

Ok. So here’s an update from the troubleshooting I’ve been able to do today:

Swapped bluetooth modules in my car (335i) with another one I have on hand. No change. Same issue observed.

Paired the car bluetooth to an old MacBook Pro I have. The bluetooth radio in the car is made by Cambridge Silicon, model (in hex) is 0x0057.

The modules in both my BMW 335i and BMW 528i are identical in terms of bluetooth supplier and certification.

Bluetooth Audio (using spec 2.1+EDR) is totally fine. No dropouts I was able to notice. It’s only when the phone switches to the Bluetooth Handsfree Profile (HFP). Looking at the bluetooth module in my BMW, it was certified by the FCC and Bluetooth standards committees in September 2009. So I assume my car is using HFP version 1.5. Version 1.5.1 was not standardized until 2019.

Question to everyone who’s having issues with their car: What is the year, make, and model? I’m thinking we should start cross-referencing Bluetooth versions. Given the ages of many of the cars mentioned, I’m thinking there’s a bug in the way HFP 1.5 has been implemented on the 15 Pro. Looking at a teardown of the iPhone 15 Pro to see what the manufacturer of the bluetooth chip states in regards to support for 1.5 specifically (though Bluetooth should be backwards compatible.)
