iMovie Exports file isn’t compatible with QuickTime Player

I have a 90-minute film on iMovie that I had successfully exported. Reviewed the entire thing without error and put it in the Documents folder. The next morning, it 'could not be opened' and 'The file isn’t compatible with QuickTime Player'.

I have no more storage to download it in Best (ProRes) because the majority of the storage is taken up by the footage of the film. I only have space for the 13 GB High Quality export.

Hi,

High Quality is exactly what you should be using. Pro res is for professionals or people who are doing very minute editing. For consumers it gives a huge file size with no discernable difference in observable quality.

Control click on your video file and, at the bottom of the menu, click on Encode selected files (or something like that). Re-encode your video and then see if QuickTimePlayer will play it.
