iphone 11 front camera out of focus

My iphone 11 front camera is so much out of focus that I only see a completely blurred image. So I'm unable to set up Face ID. The camera itself seems to be working, I can take a selfie which gets saved.

Back camera is fine.

iOS 17.0.3, so up to date.

I have rebooted the phone, normally and forced.

No applications are using the phone.

Camera > Preserve setting > Camera Mode is on

Screen protector is not blocking the camera lens.

Everything else is working OK.

It's a reconditioned phone with guarantee I just bought so I can take it back if nothing works.

I'm just hoping there's something I missed.

Anyone?

Did you also try to set the iPhone back to factory settings, without using a backup afterwards?

If the front camera does not work after using the option to set it up as a new device, then the issue seems to be hardware related and the phone has to be serviced.
