How to open HEIC file in Windows 10 without extension?

When you are trying to open .heic file on Windows 10, it says the HEVC Video Extension is required to display the photo. However, this extension is only available from Micrsoft Store and there are issues to load the extension sometimes.

If you have dozens of heic files (exported from iPhone) and want to share with other, I highly recommend converting the heic images to jpg or png, which can be opened on a PC, Mac, iPhone and Android. Did you check, if the Windows Photo app has the HEIF Image Extension installed?

Also make sure that in Settings/Camera/Formats/ ->Most Compatible has been selected.

After that all future photos will be saved as JPEG and can be easily imported to Windows.

I agree with the above solutions to open HEIC files on Windows 10, and here're my experience:

1. Install HEIC Image Extension from the official Microsoft Store at https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PMMSR1CGPWG?hl=en-US&gl=US, It doesn't work to open all types of HEIC images on Windows, free but limited.
2. Convert HEIC to JPG format. It works. Use an online (AnyRec Free Online HEIC Converter) or desktop (Real HEIC to JPG Converter) JPG converter to convert iPhone HEIC files to JPG, PNG, or other images formats you like. Make sure you use a strong Internet connection, and check the maximum file size limit first. It is a good way to open and convert several HEIC images (up to 50 images.).
3. Use a third-party image viewer. XnView is a good choice. Free and safe to use. Good to open hundreds of HEIC images in bulk on your Windows computer.
