Keeping kids game progress when switching Apple ID

My kid has use of an iPad which they use for games. The iPad is currently linked to my Apple ID but I’d like to switch it so it’s under a different Apple ID. However I don’t want to lose their game progress - any ideas on how to do this?

Game centre is toggled off at the moment I don’t know if it’s ever been used but I don’t think so. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Hello LadyPNotbob,

We see that you have a question about changing the Apple ID that is being used on an iPad. If you sign out and in with another Apple ID, there isn't a way to save the game progress, as that information is attached to the Apple ID used for that game.

If you need to create a new Apple ID for your child, you can do so by following the steps in the page below:

How to create a new Apple ID - Apple Support

Once you've signed out of the iPad with the existing Apple ID, you can use the link below to guide you on signing in with the new Apple ID.

If the games have been purchased, you can set up Family Sharing so that you do not have to purchase them again under the new Apple ID, and share them with the child, but they would not keep the game progress.
