Apple Watch Rapid Power Drain after update to WatchOS 10

Ever since I "upgraded" my Apple Watch (series 5) to WatchOS 10(.0.1) or perhaps upgraded my iPhone 14 Pro Max to IOS 17(.0.3) my Watch is draining power at an unbelievable pace. I rebooted both devices more than once without improvement.

This all started a few days ago after the Watch update. Before I used to keep my watch on all day long and at the end of the day I still had a decent charge left. It hardly ever went into low power mode.

Now, around lunch time I am at < 40%.

I turned brightness down, stopped syncing of photos, uninstalled all apps, and I regularly make sure that all apps are closed.

Can anyone explain what might be going on?

Can I downgrade the Watch to WatchOS 9?

What else can I do?

You cannot downgrade watch os. And from your story, I make up that you've updated longer then 48 hours ago?

You might want to try a forced restart

To force restart, hold down the side button and the Digital Crown at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Yes, I updated several days ago, probably almost a week ago. First time I noticed something was wrong was on 5 Oct when I had just ended a 15 mile bike ride, got back in the car, and my watch alerted me that the battery was below 10%. That was around 2:30pm. I managed to get back home to recharge my watch.

The update may have been done that morning.

I did the force restart of the watch and my phone.

But the problems didn't stop.

I have restarted both devices every other day. Now I monitor the battery level, and I charge my watch for about 45 mins to an hour whenever necessary (and I can.)

Yesterday I reviewed all settings and I stopped syncing of photos, and uninstalled all optional apps. The "always on" display has been off for years, I reduced the brightness of the display. All without success.

Very frustrating.
