iPhone 15 Pro Photos are Dark

Pictures are coming out darker after being taken with the front & back cameras. Compared with the iPhone 14 Pro & the iPhone 14's photo looks better. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing with their new iPhone 15s or knows the fix to this? This is frustrating since I need to take photos & videos for work.

The only way I can get my image to look the same in the photos app and elsewhere is to Go to Settings -> Photos-> and toggle OFF View Full HDR. This shows the image as you can expect it to look outside of the photo app when exporting. You just lose all the lovely HDR brightness and contrast. Still very disappointing.

What a rather presumptuous assumption!

The iPhone 15 Pro has an issue with its photo processing system. And it all phones not just some of the phones.

If some individual phones are having issues, which is bound to happen, people need to contact Apple and arrange for diagnostics.

And if you read the rest of the thread you’ll see that they have not offered to fix yet, people have to put in the tickets using the Apple feedback form.

There will be no general fix if there is no general problem (as you yourself acknowledged). The feedback forum is not for putting in repair tickets.

Having the exact same issue. Video looks great. Still photos look either dark or washed out (lots more grey tones) or both.

iPhone 15 Pro Max. In high light situations everything is fine, but where there is a grey day or low light situation... ugh.

unfortunately I'm in Singapore right now heading over to Australia, and decided to depend on my iPhone and my Insta360 on this trip instead of my Canon G7X. Guess that was a mistake.

The weather has been grey and cloudy here in Singapore so the photo issue a quite obvious here.

Hi,

Same issue poor quality of photos generated- just off phonecall from apple tech support as app support scheduled this last night as not sure what was wrong & to advice.

After cam settings checked- tech simply stated nothing wrong with camera/ photos except need to edit/ adjust photos as which coming from 13Pro gives good quality photos without editing!

I asked if there were similar issues reported & was told it’s the first time for this person to hear.

So am wondering if this is just an experience for the few? Or it is not being reported or logged? Or is it something Apple is not aware or not being shared to their teams?

I also asked is it something about the software/ updates that apple needs to fix? Something he was not aware or able to provide a solution for.

Bottomline- Tech suggestion was go to an apple store and have phone checked or return the phone if not happy.

I have recently purchased iPhone 15 pro max and I was really excited about this phone, the camera quality. But guess what, i am experiencing the same problem with my phone too. Pictures become so much darker and grainy after it has been taken, it looks horrible. I couldn’t believe my eyes. My iPhone 11 Pro Max takes much better pictures then this new one. I have also spoken to a member of the Apple team, they said they are aware of this issue and they are trying to solve this problem, but they don’t know when it will be fixed and how long it will take? I am just gonna downgrade with iPhone 14 pro max. I am really really disappointed ☹️. I have been waiting to upgrade for a better phone but who knew this would happen.

Oh you’re welcome, I’m sorry to hear you were waiting that long for your phone just to be left disappointed.. Apple needs to do something! I actually got my 13 Pro today, the photos are sooo much better in comparison to the 15, I’m very happy with it, the photos look as they should..! I don’t know if I’ll be able to send the link through but I will try, please read all the comments on this thread before you buy a 14, it certainly put me off getting one but I haven’t used one myself to know for sure: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254518920?page=1

Just here to put in writing with you all that I can confirm and attest to the photos becoming dark after capturing the photo. Initially when taking the photo, it looks absolutely stunning. I even tested it in outdoor natural lighting to help brighten the photos, and it does not fix it. The photo comes out darker, grainy, and pixelated looking. It almost looks like the “sharpen” camera setting is set on the highest level.

I hope it’s an easy resolve with updating software, but wanted to jump in and provide feedback.

I just got a Iphone 15 pro and I am super disappointed in the camera. The photo looks different in the photos app and the finally saved phot is darker or weirdly clear. The same happens after editing too. On top of that the pictures appear washed out on instagram. I have to delete the instagram app and reinstall it whenever that happens. It’s crazy that Apple hasn’t fixed such a huge issue yet.

I've returned mine. But I still have the test photos that I've made with the Iphone 15 pro. After switching off HDR I've tried different settings too. I've got the best result with F/1.8, ISO 100. I think this was the ultra-wide. Macro I've turned off. They are still not very good but better.

I do not know recommendable free camera apps. I've red somewhere that Adobe offers one that could be good.

Alphageek, Just because you think it’s not a widespread problem, doesn’t make it fact. There are thousands of people experiencing the same issue. Having something on the news does not determine whether it’s widespread lol. I’m simply encouraging everyone I encounter online or in person to submit a ticket because the camera is not right. And for this price of this phone, it needs to be fixed.
