Safari Not Saving History

Just got a new MacBook Pro about a month ago. 2023, 16-inch. I've only just gotten around to using it more frequently and it's pretty fantastic so far with the exception of Safari not saving my history between uses which is incredibly irritating. It saves history while I use Safari but if I, say, close the MacBook and leave it for a day or so before using it again, all my history is gone by the time I next open it. The default to remove history items was originally set to "manually" so I figured this continuous occurrence was just a dumb glitch or something and changed the setting to "after one year". Yet, it keeps happening. Any assistance would be appreciated...

Hey there ghostmann,

We'd like to help by ruling out some possible causes, along with learning more about what's happening:

  1. When did you notice that Safari history was deleting itself, and is it still set to 'Manually' if you check at this time?
  2. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section ‘Restart your Mac' here: Shut down or restart your Mac
  3. Since you have a compatible Mac model, the latest version is macOS 14. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then update: Update macOS on Mac

Cheers!
