Clearing history from Safari on my MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.1

I've seen earlier discussions of the issues but I still can't clear the history in February 2025. The 'clear history label remains steadfastly light grey and unresponsive

First try:

Click Safari menu > Clear History ... > select All History > Clear History

If that does not work:

  1. Close Safari
  2. In Finder > click the "Go" menu > "Go To Folder ..." > type "~/Library/Preferences/Safari" in the box and hit the "return" key
  3. Select the four files that have a name starting with "History.db"
  4. Move those files to the trash
  5. Launch Safari
