iPhone 15 Pro Max black screen

My phone has gone black while charging the last two nights. It will ring, sounds can be heard but the screen will not wake up. Had to press/release the volume up & down button then the on button to turn it back on. The phone works fine all during the day. What’s causing this?!?

I have exactly the same issue and I can provide more info about the after my experiment.

  1. This issue happens when using MagSafe dock to charge and when the phone is VERTICAL. It will be fine if the phone is set horizontally with the night clock display feature.
  2. the black screen is not dead. The phone is actually working but only screen not light on.
  3. it will automatically recover after around 3 minutes since you take the phone from charger.
  4. this issue seems only happened for 15 pro / pro max. As my wife’s iPhone 15 never has this issue.

Yes, this also happened to my iPhone 15 as well. When I woke up, my device screen was all black. It was so frustrating. But luckily, by forcing a reboot, it came back to life. I still haven't figured out what caused the sudden black screen on my iPhone 15, so I googled for some answers and this guide gave some reasonable explanations. I think it was due to the fact that I recently updated my iOS and this version was by defective.

Another me too. I restarted with the normal method (volume up/down then hold the power button) and it works fine after that. It’s happened almost every time I charge overnight for the last 7 days. I charge with my cable, I don’t charge wirelessly at all anywhere for the sake of not overheating the battery. I also charge with a 10 watt anker charger so it charges slower. I’ve had batteries fail sooner than expected due to being charged too quickly.

I’m so glad I saw this thread, I took my phone to Apple, she did a 30min check on it in the back room with Boynton gaslight me that there is nothing wrong with it 😒

it’s happened 4 times since, wake up between 4am and 7am to a black screen with alarm going off.

its the backlight not coming on so can’t use the phone. It also called my emergency contacts when I tried to restart with a black screen

Apple needs to address this!

Yes! My phone almost called emergency services just now. I was half asleep and trying to see what time it was, but my screen wouldn’t turn on. This has happened a few times before after overnight charging, but I couldn’t remember the buttons to push, so I was just trying different combinations and poking at the screen in frustration. The phone made this loud alarm sound and a light started flashing. It woke my husband, and I started to panic so I stopped touching anything. Then the screen came back on. I spent the next few minutes anxious it had called emergency services and reading up on that. Boo.

My wife and I both have 25 Pro Max’s. We’ve had them for about a year now and have been using MagSafe chargers to charge our phones at night. This morning my wife woke up to a black screen. Her alarm was going off but she couldn’t see her screen to turn it off. I followed the up/down and then the power button and it corrected itself. Is there a fix in future enhancements to avoid this from happening ?

Happened to me for the first time this morning. UGH. And since I forced it to restart, all day the **** thing has been glitchy, not wanting to load apps or pages, acting like it’s not connected to Wi-Fi when it is, and just generally being a giant pain.i am currently running an update to see if it helps. Our iPhones aren’t even a year old and shopuld still be under warranty but what a huge headache!

if anyone out there does find a way to help or fix this issue, please share!

I have the same issue. I have tried different chargers and all have the same result. The phone is black in the morning. It is still on and responsive but I just can’t see anything. I actually called 911 by accident. This really needs to be fixed. For a company so focused on safety and emergency features, this glitch defeats all of that. This has happened to me multiple times and I’m stuck trying to guess where to slide to force it to shut down.

I have the iPhone 15 pro.

This also has happened to my phone twice now I have the 14 Pro Max and within the last month and a half my screen has turned completely black after charging it all night. I wake up in the morning with my screen black and everything else works. You can hear the noises on the phone showing me that it still works. The screen is just not turning on. Both times as soon as I get in my car and turn it on my screen starts to work on my phone again I’m not sure what that means. I’ve had this phone for quite some time now and it never did this in the beginning.
