FaceTime web not working anymore on Windows

The website https://facetime.apple.com is not working anymore. I have tried to get it working with several browsers (Brave, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge).


I can join the call and I can talk to the person who is on the phone, but I cannot hear the person who is on the phone. Turning on the camera also does not work. I can do a normal FaceTime call from iPhone to iPhone, it is just the website that is not working.


I am using the latest iOS version (17.0.3) and using a Windows 11 laptop.


Is there something wrong with the website? I use this daily and it is frustrating that this is not working anymore.


When I opend the console in Developer Tools I saw a lot of errors that might be usefull in the investigation of this issue. You can find them here: https://pastebin.com/SC1MHMjS


Things I've tried to resolve this issue:


  • Check if iPhone is using the latest iOS
  • Restarting my iPhone
  • Restarting my laptop
  • Updating laptop and browsers to their latests version
  • Try this with several other iPhone users

This is to do with a Chromium engine update (which FaceTime is designed for Chromium).

This issue is further outlined in my Apple Community post:

I will publish a reply to my own post once I or another person have pinned down the problematic library.

Please note, I am not an Apple employee, I am a professional programmer assisting with this issue which has persisted for over half a year now (according to the Chromium update publish date).

For others here, I will try to provide a snappy way to fix this issue with minimal modification to your browser settings (such as installing a Chromium extension).

When you join the call from your PC, are you following all the steps as listed here and have you ensured that you have all that you need? Here are the steps to look over: Join a FaceTime call from an Android or Windows device - Apple Support.
