A friend of mine pulled the trigger and join the Apple world. Ordered a laptop from Amazon and, according to them, it was signed for at delivery but she never received it. A dispute has been filed with her CC company but that won’t get her laptop. She is trying to find out if an unopened, brand new laptop can be “bricked” or tracked so whoever does have it cannot use it. Don’t know where to find the answers or what else can be done for resolution. Thanks.
A Mac that has not yet been properly set up cannot be Activation Locked, or "bricked" as you call it. Nor can it be tracked otherwise. This would require it to have been activated and assigned to an Apple ID.

You will have to take this up with Amazon since they were the shipping entity. They once delivered my package to the wrong address. Thankfully the person at the address to which it was delivered was kind enough to bring the package to me.
