Turn off auto enhance on Instagram iPhone 15 Pro etc.

I just received the iPhone 15 Pro. I am finding the macro function does a lot of camera switching and takes blurry shots which is super frustrating, but what is more frustrating is that I can't seem to post any photos to Instagram without automatic photo enhancement. As soon as I select a photo from my library, it is auto enhanced leading to unnatural colors and blow out mostly. They look terrible. I turned off HDR and did all of the tricks suggested for taking photos, but can't seem to figure this one out. Also, any macro suggestions are appreciated. We compared my macro shots with my husbands iPhone 13 and his are much better. Any ideas?

It sounds like you're really running into some frustrating issues with the iPhone 15 Pro, especially with the macro mode and Instagram's auto-enhancement. For the macro shots, one suggestion would be to turn off the auto-macro feature in settings. Sometimes, the constant switching between lenses leads to the camera struggling to lock focus. You can also try manually adjusting focus in the Camera app to see if that helps reduce the blur.

As for Instagram's auto-enhancement, it's strange that turning off HDR and the usual tricks haven’t worked. Some users have found that exporting the image through another app before uploading can bypass Instagram's enhancements. You could try editing in an app like Snapseed or Lightroom first, save it, and then post on Instagram. A best app to enhance photos is the latest version of Remini MOD APK. I use it very often.

It's also interesting to hear your husband’s iPhone 13 is performing better in macros. The 13's camera might handle close-up focusing more smoothly, whereas the iPhone 15 Pro may still have kinks to work out in the software. Hopefully, Apple will push an update soon!

Thanks so much! I played with the phone today and discovered that if I import photos to Camera + and then back to my photo library that I can post to Instagram without auto enhancement of photos. If it posts directly to Insta from the iPhone camera, it auto enhances, which doesn't happen in the other instance. Kinda too much work in my opinion to be able to post from the iPhone camera. I will (re) contact Apple Support. Thanks again

This works—thank you! I have no idea why putting my phone into low power mode should correct this issue, but I'm grateful for this workaround so my posted pictures aren't all ruined by that horrible default AI auto-filtering. And I don't know whether it's Apple or Instagram causing it, but I am glad to have a way to stop it! The implicit assumption seems to be that we all take horrible photos that always need "fixing"?? Really unfortunate decision on some tech team's part. 🙄

Hi everyone. The same issue happens to me, unfortunately. Can't tell if it's 100% accurate but it seems that I solved it before the latest (iOS 18) update, I've just missed the moment when this issues came back again.

As it was already mentioned, I disabled the HDR setting in the settings of my iPhone (15 Pro).

BUT! I've found that there's such setting in the Instagram too: go to Instagram > click on your profile in the bottom right corner > press the hamburger menu (in the top right corner) > scroll down to the "Your app and media" section > press "Media quality". In my case there are three toggle selectors, all of them are disabled. But pay attention to the last one called "Disable display of HDR media" - it's now activated by default, which basically means that the HDR option is enabled in Instagram. Once I activated the "Disable display of HDR media" the issue seemed to had been resolved until recently. Now I'm getting the same problem again, and yes, activating the "Low power mode" helps for some weird reason. I think this is the iOS issue, not the Instagram's.

Furthermore, here are some of my find outs:

  1. If you open the image in Snapseed and without any changes press "Export" - there's an option "Export" which saves a JPG copy with permanent changes. Such copy doesn't seem to be auto enhanced in Instagram. Works as a workaround.
  2. The same issue happens in the iPhones photo editor: just try to open the image in the editor and press "Markup" - as the result the image gets auto-enhanced. I believe this is the problem in the iOS system that causes such behavior.

Regarding the automatic photo enhancement you mentioned, is this only happening when posting photos on Instagram? If so, you'd want to reach out to Instagram's support team for more help with how photos appear in their app: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

If not, and this behavior persists, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support directly for further assistance. They're better equipped to take a closer look at the issue and provide some additional guidance. This link will help you get started: Apple Support
