iPhone wireless car charging stopped after iOS 17.1 update

After my iPhone 15 Pro upgraded to 17.1 yesterday, my phone now charges for 10 seconds than stops charging in my wireless car charger. Had no issues prior to the 17.1 update with the phone in the car. Have tested two home wireless charging pads and they work properly and don’t stop charging.

I downloaded IOS 17-1 on my phone first (iPhone 15 PRO) my phone will no longer charge on my 2023 chevy blazer. It lights up green for 10 seconds then changes to amber and quits charging. My wife has an iPhone 15. I tried her phone in the vehicle and it charged fine. I then downloaded IOS 17-1 on her phone. It did the same green light for 10 seconds then amber and quit charging. My phone was able to connect to CarPlay before and after the update.

On another issue I connected my phone to my IMAC and it would not charge without a short download on my mac. My mac acted crazy and i could not type anything until I rebooted it and it appears to work ok now.

I have read about BMW’s with the same issue. Apple supervisor suggested that GM probably will have to update the vehicle. “The vicious circle begins”

It seems like the BMW/Toyota issue was slightly different since it apparently affected their NFC features too after charging in those vehicles. I haven’t had any issues using Apple Pay or anything else using NFC thankfully so it seems this problem is solely associated with wireless charging. As far as GM releasing an update….they very well may need to but the probably won’t have much urgency in doing it. Most car manufacturers love to do the blame game so I anticipate a ton of finger pointing back to Apple…just remains to be seen who exactly is responsible. Might honestly be Apple.

Maybe if we all report it to Apple they’ll fix it! They did fix the same issue in BMW’s in 17.1.1

The issue wasn’t exactly the same though. Apparently with those using the BMW and Sheraton Toyota vehicles wireless charging also caused an issue where functions like Apple Pay didn’t work. Theoretically if it were the exact same issue it would have been fixed by updating to iOS 17.1.1 (notice Apple never said which vehicles and only gave a blanketed statement in the 17.1.1 notes although it was known that the issue at the very minimum involved BMWs and a Toyota model). I imagine that if everyone is reporting the issue via the Apple feedback form they may be working on a fix. The real question is just how long it will take for that update to release assuming the issue is solely fixable via an iOS update.

I have a 2024 Buick Encore GX Avenir with the technology package and picked it up on Sept. 7th and I still had the iPhone 14 Pro Max and it charge great. I preordered the iPhone 15 pro max and it charged fine until iOS 17.1 was released and now it will charge for about 5 to 10 seconds and cut off. I had it at the dealer for 3 days and they ran diagnostics and everything came back fine. They put an iPhone 14 Pro Max on the pad and it charged fine. My service advisor put his work iPhone 14 Pro on the pad and it charged. They also tried android phones and they charged. Is Apple looking into this? I called Apple Support last night and explained what was going on and he was baffled at first because all other iPhones worked on it but not the iPhone 15 Pro Max. They told me to call GM...I know they are not trained on this type of issue but it's not GM. Just because the iPhone isn't breaking like on the BMW which they fixed with iOS 17.1 and broke a lot of GM vehicles wireless charging. Its affecting Cadillacs as well.

I upgraded by iPhone 12 Pro to IOS 17.1.1, and my Grip All-in-1 Wireless Charger now only charges for 10 seconds. This occurs in both a Toyota Tundra and Kia Telluride. Since the charger is still under warranty, I took it back to the store where I bought it and replaced it with a new, identical charger with the same results. I took the new charger back and exchanged it again for another new charger with the same results. It certainly appears to be an IOS 17.1.1 issue.

My iPhone 14 Pro worked with my 3rd party wireless charger for over two months, then stopped charging around my iOS 17 update. I removed my cover, changed power supplies twice, to no avail.

the identical charger was used with my previous iPhone 12 without any issue.

I must admit that I had to lay the phone centered on the charger, but it was was not difficult even in the dark getting into bed.

The only difference is the iOS version that happened recently.

COME ON APPLE, INVESTIGATE AND PUSH OUT THE PATCH SOON!

Yes I am aware. The one iPhone 15 Pro Max that we updated to 17.1.1 (and now 17.1.2) is experiencing the issue in our Buick/GM vehicles. The other 15 series devices in the household (including another Pro Max) as well as 14 series devices not updated are still working fine. Oh and a 13 Pro Max that was updated also experiences the issue. I reported it as needed but haven’t been too concerned since if absolutely necessary I can easily just plus in my USB-C cable in to the USB-C port in my car and it will charge fine (just haven’t needed to since my battery has been pretty great since purchase). If it affected my wireless CarPlay I might have been more frustrated since I don’t generally want to have to pull out the cable in the car if I don’t have to but I can completely understand the fact that the issue is happening at all is very frustrating to most people.

You’re missing the point here…there are 100’s of 1000’s or millions of cars, including devices that aren’t charging wirelessly anymore because of iOS 17.1.1. I bought the Technology package on my 2024 GM and it charged my iPhone 14 Pro Max and 15 Pro Max wirelessly fine while using Apple CarPlay. iOS 17.1.1 comes out and fixes BMW’s but destroys all other vehicles wireless charging capabilities. I don’t want to have to plug my phone into my car when I get in it and neither should everyone on here that has reported and complained about this issue. Apple has to fix this.

Same issue. I place my phone on a wireless charger at night and have for the past 2 years with my 12 pro. Ever since the update my phone is dead in the morning. It actually has less battery than when I went to bed. Droid is looking better and better

You seem to be having a different issue than what this thread is reporting. This thread is about users who have had their wireless car charger not working, but was fixed in iOS 17.2. It had nothing to do with charging the device wirelessly using a home charger.

Maybe start a new question with the issue you are having, since it does not pertain to car charging and provide details on the brand of the charger you are using and also if you have tried using a different charger to eliminate that as the source of the problem. Some other factors to include are if you have a case on your iPhone and tried without the case or if you receive the charging notification when setting on the charger.

The last two iOS updates have not fixed my wireless car charger issue. Ever since I updated to iOS 17.1 I can no longer use my wireless car charger in my 2022 Chevy Silverado. I am using an iPhone 13 pro max. Dealer has tested the wireless car charger and it works fine in the shop. I have tried it with two other iPhones which also didn’t work, however, my friend’s Android phone did work flawlessly when I tested it today. I have updated to iOS 17.2.1 today and this has not fixed the issue.
