Apple Music stops playing after update to iPad OS 17.1

The music in the Apple Music app stops playing after one or a few songs after I updated to iPad OS 17.1. Even a force quit of the app does not help. Only a restart of the device helps.

Hi, similar problem since updating iPhone to 17.1. Tried closing down the music app, force restarting it, annoyed me all day! However just deleted the Music app, and reinstalled from the App Store and works completely fine now. Hope this helps 👍🏻

If you don't have an option to download the 17.2 version (which I do not have (apparently it involves joining the developer tier)) and don't care about Apple Music, there is a workaround that involves toggling the Show Apple Music option to off under the Music app settings.

This will not resolve any streaming issues with Apple Music not working, but I've found that it will allow me to play already downloaded content.

Settings > Music > Show Apple Music > Off.

I found out that by closing all apps first, then opening and closing Apple Music repeatedly, it can start playing downloaded songs in Shuffle mode. The number of songs playable varies, from one to twelve, the longest. When it stops, I go over the rigmarol again until it continues playing. This is definitely an Apple Music issue as Amazon Music is not affected. I would rather not upgrade to 17.2 as it is beta mode and could affect other functions.

Worked with Apple support half day, tried several recommendations to fix, nothing worked. They finally told me I needed to take it to an Apple Store and have them do a complete reset of iPad and if I had enough iCloud storage I wouldn’t lose my data. My iPhone works fine so I canceled Apple Music streaming subscription and will use Spotify for streaming subscription. Apple’s upgrade is the issue, they need to fix it.

Same issue on my iPad 6 Generation wonder if it’s happening on all I Pads I spoke with Apple Support s Senior Advisor and they haven’t heard of this issue and did a diagnostic test, screen share reinstalling app, all no good he said they have to look into it further an escalated it to the engineer dept and will get back with me, not holding my breath

apple music is fine on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and I have the latest update IOS 27.1.2 on both

They should know as an Apple Support Senior Advisor has been trying to be helpful in fixing my ipad as it has the same issue? Very strange indeed as they told me they were aware of the issue affecting some users. So far they have deleted the App, reinstalled it, reset everything, and then I agreed to wipe my ipad and start again, with nothing installed at all and so far it still does it with the "latest" updates although it can now get to 30 / 40 minutes without locking. Hopefully they will fix it for all of use so we can play music over the festive period?

I was having all the same problems with the music app on my IPAD (7th gen) everyone has commented on in this thread. Supposedly, this new update 17.1.2 released at the beginning of December was supposed to fix this issue with the music app. I updated the IPAD to 17.1.2, but this update did not solve the music app problem. In my case, it made it worse. I should also clarify I don't subscribe to Apple Music (the streaming service). The problems I am describing are with the music app relative to the music I loaded onto my IPAD from my own collection of CD'S, etc. The app opens, but maybe two times out of ten it will actually start playing a song. The other eight times the app opens completely frozen. If I can actually get it to play a song, the whole app freezes within a moment or two, although the song keeps playing, cannot do anything in the app at that point and have to completely shut down the app and/or shut down the IPAD itself and turn it back on. But then the same issue occurs again if I use the music app. I don't know if anybody else has updated to this latest IOS version 17.1.2 and is continuing to see issues in the music app. But if you haven't updated to this version, don't get your hopes up, because it doesn't seem to fix the music app issue, at least in my case.
