Error occurs when trying to sync Apple Music library between iPhone and Mac

Hi!

I tried syncing my apple music library on my mac with the one from my iphone. I went into settings on mac and I checked the sync library option, did many restarts, tried it in safe mode but nothing worked.

Is there any fix to this?

Sorry for the late reply. To clarify, I signed out on my Mac entirely, changed password, signed back in on the Mac in System Settings.

I had tried signing out and back in previously, but didn’t change password, and the problem persisted. Only when I changed the password whilst signed out did it fix my problem.

I’m in the same boat. Web app still shows my library. All other devices have lost access - either just times out silently when syncing or pips up with an error.

Really frustrating.

I think there’s some larger syncing issue at hand though - I lost a whole day’s worth of Fitness+ data yesterday, and it now says my birthday is a day before what it actually is.

Same problem.

1) Music app on M1 Macbook Pro 14' (Sonoma 14.2.1) unable to sync - Error 18004. Tried signing out from the Music app and from Macbook settings and changing password. Doesn't work for me. Same error still.

2) Library on the Web player in Safari seems to be ok and updated.

3) Library on the new iPhone 14 (iOS 17.2.1) has only about 40 songs I purchased in iTunes. And it doesn't synch with iCloud library.

Very frustrating.

Considering on switching to YouTube Music or Yandex Music.

Same here. Everything was working fine until I changed my Apple ID email address, which didn't go smoothly, and I had to log out and log back in on all my devices. The iCloud Music Library refuses to sync and throws error 18004, precisely like in your case. I've lost thousands of songs and all my playlists. It's not syncing on any of my devices, Macs, iPhones or iPads.

The workaround of changing the password while logged out from iCloud didn't work for me.

I opened a ticket and chatted with several operators while trying to identify issues with anything but Music. It's definitely a bug either on Music app or cloud backend systems.

I'm sure a bunch of Apple devs too are experiencing the problem now :] I'd be pretty sure they will address the bug sooner or later.

I have the same problem on my iPhone (iOS 17.2.1) and M1 MacBook Air (Sonoma 14.2.1). The iPhone keeps syncing but only shows purchased content, no playlists or any song in my iCloud Library. The MacBook throws an error 18004 after reactivating iCloud sync.

I’ve tried to log out and back into iCloud on both devices and changed my password, but no effect.

Web version shows most songs and even new added playlists in native apps on iPhone or MacBook. Recently added songs are missing in playlists, since I’ve started to experience syncing issues a few weeks ago.

This is really frustrating I bought my wife a new MacBook Air for Christmas so she had her own laptop to manage her extensive iTunes library. Now we can't get the music even accessible on the device because it won't sync and we get the 18004 error. I think Apple are badly letting down their customers who invested heavily in buying music via their music store. We have been to the local Apple store several times with issues in the past and their default answer is pay a subscription for Apple Music. She pays for the iTunes Match service and has spent thousands on her music collection. Apple need to get their act together and get back to quality and reliability instead of just chasing subscriptions.
