IOS 17.1 Apple Music stops after a couple of songs on 6th Gen iPad

After upgrade to iOS 17.1, Apple Music freezes and stops. I’ve tried streaming and downloading, different Wi-Fi and I’ve just restored to factory with basic setup, no transfer, straight into music and it does the same. iPad 6th generation. Everything else works, it’s just music. Subscriber to Apple Music. Anyone else seeing this or have suggestions please?

17.2 has fixed this (utterly annoying) issue.

Update : Spent 2 hours 12 min with Apple tier 1 then tier 2 support , final solution was to restore device as Apple Music app may have been corrupted during last update ; also was told that Apple engineers are aware of the problem and are working on a solution. (i.e. wait for next update), so basically the same song dance for all who call in for support.

I turned off the Siri settings in the Music App preferences and things got incrementally more functional - not right by a long shot though

So I was lucky enough to get music playing - and I Force Quit the app… and music kept playing for another 20 seconds or so… WTF? Force Quit is supposed to override everything.

It’s like the operating system doesn’t have control. I’m not a software developer (analog chip design was my thing) - but it seems like the interrupt handler is broken.

I’m running a iPad 6th generation… Does anybody else see this behavior?

I’m just chiming in to say I did everything you did and was ultimately told that the engineers will PROBABLY work on an update to fix it. No timeframe given. 6th gen here.

The senior tech I am working with is nice and spent hours with me on Monday trying to fix this, but when I had my follow-up call with her and her next step for me was to do a factory reset, I got irritated and refused. I reminded her this is a systemic issue and not happening to just me (I screenrecorded not only the Apple Music stuff, but also me navigating through these forums), so a reset on my personal device isn’t going to solve anything.

I’ve been an Apple devotee (and subscriber) for years but this is ridiculous, eh?

Anyway, solidarity, man. This sucks.

FIXED iPad 6th Gen ... updated to 7.1.1 and followed instructions ... All is perfect for both my library which is extensive and apple music. Actully better performance than I have ever experienced on iPad. No lag, no delay just perfect.

1 Navigate to Settings > Music and turn off Sync Library.

2 Restart the device.

3 In Settings > Music, turn on Sync Library again. For larger libraries or slower network connections, content could take several minutes to load.

4 Run iTunes ... Search you library or search iTunes ... Test the behavior.

Exact Same. I am on a sixth generation iPad and I’m seeing the same thing after updating the iOS to 17.1.1. Previously downloaded music seems stuck, won’t play, sometimes can’t even see the album graphics. Everything that worked perfectly before this iOS upgrade in regard to Apple Music now no longer works. I might get one track to play and then it stops, and seems stuck, or frozen. This so completely sucks! Am gonna go to Apple store and have them revert it back to previous ios.

Gah… yep… same here. 7th-Gen iPad running iOS 17.1

for the last few weeks we can’t get the Music app to play more than one song before it freezes and requires being restarted. Then the same thing after restart… one song and then it stops playing and sort of freezes. At that point, I cannot control anything and often many icons are missing. I have deleted the app multiple times, after which it seemed to briefly perform better (?) like it would get through maybe 2 songs… then resume a one-track-per restart behavior. We hoped there was something we could do about it… and have tried numerous “fixes” to no avail. Based on anecdotes here, this is a fairly widespread issue with 17.1

Exactly the same problem.

I spent two hours at the Apple store last night -- where everything was tried to get the music on my iPad to work like it did before the 17.1.1 update. Then, I spent at least an hour on the phone last night with tech support. No luck. How long do you think it will take before this problem is fixed? Will it be fixed? I strongly recommend that everyone with this problem wait on the phone as long as it takes to talk with a technician. Perhaps the more they hear from us, the faster we'll get a fix. I plan to contact tech support every day until the problem is fixed. I recommend that others do the same. I'm really annoyed and have no intention of buying another Apple product.

I agree. EVERYONE with the problem MUST contact customer service and wait on hold as long as it takes to get a person -- it will take two people -- on the phone. BTW after an hour long conversation two days ago and getting a case number registering my complaint, I am expecting a call back tonight. I plan to call customer service every single day. In addition, we must give this problem as much publicity as possible. This consumer group may also be of help: https://www.elliott.org/company-contacts/apple/ It's simply unacceptable that Apple not address this problem immediately.

Same issue with my iPad 7th gen Wi-Fi model 32gb, Apple Music app does not load through shortcut, after manually load I start a track only to stop playing after it ends , all music and shortcuts work normally on iPhone ,sometime the app starts but blank screen, if the track starts no album art, next it’s frozen only to be forced closed ; I have restored the device , alas no difference , would love to hear a response from Apple on this. Besides the usual “next update will fix the issue”.

I wonder the same thing! Even after spending hours with Apple Support they wouldn’t even admit that the problem was caused by the update, let alone offer any solutions. I finally ended the session with the comment “I guess I’ll just have to wait for the next update to fix it” and the woman agreed with me. Why am I paying for Apple Music then if I’m not able to listen to it? From what I’ve seen in online comments this problem was apparent in the beta version back in September. So why wasn’t it fixed before the wide release? Not impressed, Apple.
