USB C Headphone lead on iPhone 15 SOLVED (sort of)

More problems with the way Apple have designed the USB C port.

I bought the official Apple USB C headphone lead but it didn't work. I plugged in my Bang & Olufsen wired headphones and the music continued to come out of the iPhone 15 Pro speakers.

I found many postings about failed car connection with Apple Car Play that were solved by playing one song through Apple Music.

So this evening I connected the official Apple USB C - Headphone Lead to an old Apple Ear Phone lead from an elderly iPod. Then Connected the USB C end to the iPhone 15 Pro. The phone asked if I was trying to connect a headphone so I pressed yes. Then I opened Apple Music and played a song and it came through the earpiece!

What on earth is going on?

I just bought the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I wanted to use my EarPods that I used with my old iPhone 12 so I bought a lighting to usb-c adapter. Seemed like the cheapest solution but alas, no sound come out the EarPods, just the phone speakers. The fact that Apple was so stubborn about having a proprietary connector for so long then to finally switch to usb-c and not making sure it worked properly is extremely frustrating. I had to buy all new charging cables for my car, home, and office. I really don’t understand the rationale for the change. I stick with Apple because for the most part they get it right or fix issues right away. Come on Apple!

Same here v v frustrating. £1000 phone I've just bought a TRS to TRRS audio cable to see if that would work, but what a terrible solution for Apple. Steve J would never have allowed this to happen.

IMO Apple are loosing some of their considered and careful approach to Product development and launch to market. Sloppy.

Lets see if 3 cables fix the problem

I solved this issue with a rather interesting approach. I have a V-Moda Crossfade M-100 Master that I wanted to connect to my iPhone 15 Pro Max using a standard Apple USB-C to 3.5 mm audio adapter. My phone screen was locked when I plugged the USB-C adapter + headphones into the phone and a notification popped up saying "Trying to connect an accessory" or something. I lost this prompt when I got an incoming call and the iPhone routed the call directly through the phone audio bypassing the headphones + mic setup.

I restarted my phone, connected the same thing and expected to see the prompt but did not. I had to trick the phone into thinking I was doing this afresh, so I pulled the 3.5 mm audio out and slid it in halfway into the adapter till I could hear the all too familiar audio noise in the headphones, and the notification popped up again. This time I selected "Yes" and audio + microphone came through. The setup works flawlessly now.

I hope this works for everyone who has an issue as well. Thanks!

P.S: My headset comes with a microphone cable, and a plain audio cable with 3 bands.

I finally found the solution on my iPhone 15 pro. Try this out:

-Settings

-Accessibility

-Audio & Visual

-Headphone accommodations (top option)

-Turn on and adjust to your liking

…And boom plugged in my $5 generic usb-c to 3.5 headphone jack from Amazon. The message “do you want to use headphones” came up.

Been working ever since.. Hope it works for anybody else trying the same.

It's getting worse

My 'cheap' Lightning Female to Male USB C connector is the only way I can connect to iTunes. But...

It's affecting my Microsoft Outlook application on my Windows desktop!!!

I've been struggling with emails stuck in my Outlook outbox. No amount of reboots or app closures would unstick it. Until I disconnected the iPhone. The stuck items cleared and all was restored.

As a check I rebooted the desktop. Opened Outlook and completed a 'Send & Receive' with success.

Then connected the iPhone and composed a message. It stuck again.

Unplugged the iPhone and the stuck message cleared.

This is spot-on. I play music through my iphone into a mixer during gigs to play music for the house while my band takes a break. No problem with a lightning dongle to 3.5mm cable into my mixer for years. then bought an iphone 15 and it uses a USB C, so I bought the Apple dongle to connect and now the mixer won't recognize the 3.5 mm cable. Turns out that I have to loosely connect the 3.5 to my PA mixer, but tightly connect it to the phone dongle. It works, but if the cable gets bumped while playing music, I am sure it will break up or disconnect the sound. I am using a 2-ring 3.5 mm cable. Sheesh....

I purchased an iPhone 15 Pro Max and successfully used an Apple compatible splitter for charging and listening with headphones at the same time for several months. Recently it stopped working so I purchased a new splitter and then new headphones and they did not work either. I went to the Apple Store and they tried off the shelf devices to test my earphones and the results didn’t change. There is no visible damage to my phone. Now I discover others seem to be having the same or similar problem. Is there a fix coming from Apple ?

This is the correct solution for getting phone audio out of the USBC. You are basically telling the iPhone that your accessory is a set of wired headphones. - From Tanmaynehete

To fix this issue follow below steps

go to

sound & haptic

>>. Head phone safety

>> USB audio accessories >>

1st click on forget all USB Accesories

then enable connected to headphones option.
