Depending on who sits in the car first that phone is connected to carplay. It is usually my wife but I want to use my better equipped phone to connect to carplay.I must disconnect her phone first and then have great difficulties to connect mine. It would be nice if carplay offered an option - When two iphones are present in the car first connect such and such phone.

Depending on your car radio it is an option. My old Nissan Murano allowed you to do in settings by where the primary phone listed to connect first is also the phone that accesses CarPlay. My Buick Enclave does this too.
On your radio are there sub options to choose like which device has first connect priority, if you want each device to have texts/calls/etc to come on the screen with each option being individually listed so you customize how it works? My car OEM radio allows this. Ultimately this is something the head unit/radio has to allow. If not there is nothing you can do except hope that your radio gets a firmware update that would allow more options.
