MacBook Pro won't let me open any app, I can't access Apple icon or shut down using control command Touch ID

I'm unable to open chrome to open new windows. I can't access Word. When I go through finder, i can see my documents but am unable to open

So we can start, please help us help you. I take it you are not asking about the Macbook Air 13" in your equipment profile.


  • What MacBook Pro sub-model? The bit with a year and screen size, and sometimes modified by Early, Mid, or Late.
  • What macOS version is it running?


Both are quickly available from "About this Mac..." under your Apple menu:



Both are critical for us to know if we are to help in this setting where we can neither see nor touch your computer.
