Volume button not working on WhatsApp on iPhone

Volume up and down button don't work while listening to WhatsApp voice notes. I have 15 pro max. it is really annoying as I have to restart the app or do the volume thing from control center. What's the solution for this?

The below mentioned solution worked for me.

Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and toggle on Change with Buttons.

This is WhatsApp support told me.

patronizing to be honest.

Hi,

Thanks for your message.

It appears your device may be having a compatibility issue with WhatsApp's built-in voice messaging function. WhatsApp doesn't have unique volume settings, so all volume components including video playback volume, audio playback volume, and notifications are controlled entirely by your phone.

To troubleshoot audio issues, try the following:

  • Toggle the volume button up to increase the volume.
  • Close any apps on your phone might be using your audio output or voice playback.
  • If your screen turns black when you listen to a voice message, your phone's proximity sensor might not be working. Please be sure the proximity sensor is not covered, and turn off all device specific smart screen features.
  • Restart your phone or turn it off and on.

Note

  • Many phones have different volume settings for different types of media and notifications. Check your phone’s settings to adjust the volume for the type of media you’re trying to hear.
  • To get help with proximity sensor issues, we recommend you contact your phone’s manufacturer.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We'll be happy to help!

Same problem on whatsapp business to.

Deleting and reinstalling whatsapp and whatsapp business didn’t fix the problem

i contacted whatsapp they don’t even recognize it and it’s not in their scope to work on.

Apple asked to do a restore for the phone to see if the problem is in the software but all apps work perfectly so it’s whatsapp problem just keep trying to report the problem to whatsapp until it get fixed in an update.

I have the issue too on an iPhone XS running the latest iOS 17.1.1.

Here is my observation, if I encounter the issue, the only quick workaround short of restarting the device is to send Whatsapp to the background by switching to any app on my device and voila, the volume controls for a call on Whatsapp work. Bring whatsapp to the foreground and the issue returns.

This is clearly an app issue that Meta has to fix with Apple.
