Microphone not working when plugged to AUX on iPhone 15 Pro Max

I recently upgraded to an iphone 15 pro max. With my iphone 13, I used to have a lightning to AUX cable in my car which enables music/ sound to play the iphone through the speakers and enable me to take calls handsfree. I replaced this with a USB- C to AUX cable (to suit the iphone 15) and the music/ sound plays through the sound system fine, however the microphone no longer works (i.e. answer calls and person on the other side cannot hear me). It also has disabled Siri- if I say "hey Siri" this isn't recognised. Please help how to enable the microphone

I’m having the same issue. I just upgraded from a 12 Pro Max to a 15 pro max and I also lose mic functionality when I plug a usb-c to 3.5 mm audio cable between my new phone and my older car.

when I plug in such a cable I am prompted to answer whether the accessory is headphones or “other”. The first try I selected headphones and that’s when I found that music and audio for calls works, but the mic does not.

i tried another usb-c to 3.5 mm cord and this time when prompted I answered “other”. Now the audio works for music, but audio AND mic don’t work for calls.

I agree that it’s a huge pain to lose functionality on a new phone. I’m hoping also that it will just take a software update to fix. Worst case scenario is that there is a limitation with USB-C where it can’t alter the function of the microphone through the jack.

I’m having the exact same issue you’re experiencing. I had no problems with the iPhone 14 Pro (aux to lightning converter). As soon as I swapped to the new aux to usb-c converter with the new iPhone 15 Pro, the microphone stopped working (no problems with the speaker). Functions like Siri, text dictation, phone calls, etc. all are not operating when connected to this new converter. You have to unplug the iPhone for the microphone to start working. This makes driving and talking pretty annoying, since you have to use speaker phone. I wonder if Apple will have a solution to this soon. I’m hoping it’s just a software update they can make, I really don’t want to buy a new car.

I upgraded from iPhone 12 Pro Max to an iPhone 15 pro max and I first got the phone, my purchased ugreen usb-c to aux worked for both phone calls and music just fine.

somewhere along with way (probably an update) it changed and now I cannot even use the same adapter that worked for phone calls at all now. Music plays just fine but the audio from my phone no longer sees it as a headset connected for phone calls.

i believe Apple changed something in a firmware release that caused this issue.

So peeps, just an update, I got in contact with Apple customer service and I went through a load of tests with them online and they haven’t found an answer, I’ve got to book an appointment to see the Genius Bar so they can see the issue in person, I’m hoping that they will see this as a hardware issue, but I will keep you posted about any further progress and answers

I can only tell you from my point of view, but I HAVE NOT found an answer or a solution. I use cheap wired headphones without a mic to listen to music or videos because I am hearing-impaired. I still cannot listen and talk on my phone when I’m plugged in to it. THIS ALSO HAPPENS ON MY IPAD-MINI AS WELL! I filed a complaint with Apple and suggest more people do that- these community comments are not getting much action. To me, if this isn’t resolved, I may need to rethink my commitment to Apple products in the future.

Anyone have a solution? I've tried both the Apple and Google adapters with no luck. Unable to connect external microphone through the Apple USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter. The phone is using the internal microphone. I'm using iOS 17.3.1. I used this set-up all the time with my older iPhone and lightning/Aux adapter for streaming video with an external microphone. I'm trying to record video/audio using an external microphone. Any suggestions?

I’m having the same exact issue. I went through all the hassles of buying new cable converters for the new iPhone 15 pro since I have an older car with no Bluetooth. Spotify and music etc sounds fine but if I answer a call the recipient cannot hear me. I can hear them talking but the microphone doesn’t pick up sounds on my end. Can’t really be plugging in and unplugging my phone while driving, and speaker is too quiet when on highways with rough surfaces.
