Messages didn’t download to new phone with backup restore

my phone took almost 9 hours to download all of my apps and photos. It didn’t download my messages though. I have checked iCloud settings and they were definitely backed up. Can I retrieve without having to erase and re download backup again ?

It can take a SIGNIFICANT amount of time for messages to download, especially if it’s large. Take a look at your iCloud usage and see the relative size of the messages data. I recently restored 48GB and it took nearly a week before all the messages and associated attachments finished downloaded and were all viewable.
