Apple Music app freezes after 17.1 update on my iPad

After updating to 17.1 on my iPad Gen 6, the Apple Music app freezes almost immediately upon opening.

Numerous calls to Apple support have been useless: I have deleted and reinstalled the app, hard-restarted the iPad numerous times, completely erased and set up my iPad as new, and still the Music app freezes up.

Naturally I had just paid for entire year’s subscription too.

The app works fine on my iPhone.

Anyone else have this problem after updating?

Here's the solution that worked for me.

Go to Music and DUPLICATE your play list, then delete the original.

Sync to NEW playlist only.

I had the same problem. Went as far as buying 10th gen iPad because I was out of memory anyway, however the problem was still there. Did the above and all is well.

Then updated iPhone SE to 17.1 and had same problem with music. Followed the above and that now works also. Hope all of you have the same results.

I'm having the same exact issue, and it's November 16, now. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Music twice. I've cleared the memory in the iPad. I've done a factory reset. I've adjusted every setting in Music, from crossfade to sound check to music quality. Have tried using it both with a wired audio cable and via Bluetooth. Nothing has fixed the issue.

If I'm lucky, I can play one or two songs before it totally craps out again. I just signed up for the Family plan so we could all listen to Music but am reconsidering if I should keep subscribing to Apple Music now. It's fine for my phone, laptop, and CarPlay, but our iPad is the main device we use to stream to our stereo. It's wall-mounted and everything!

I back up both my husbands and my iPad to my iMac so we have different playlists in ITunes. I duplicated mine xxxxx and it was then named xxxxII. When you are connected skip the backup then choose the new name. One of the sync tabs is music. Then you have choices of genres songs, etc. I just chose the new playlist. Not knowing how you are set up, that’s about the best I can explain what I did. I don’t know how it worked but it does. It took quite awhile to sync but I’m a happy camper.

Hope this helps.

After trying everything else I found a work around. Little slow but works and it has for days now. Factory reset iPad then installed from another newer iPad as if setting up as a new replacement iPad. Transferring everything from newer iPad. Carbon copy if you will. Works fine now. Apple is well aware of problem but just like our leaders. They deny everything.

There are many people posting with the exact same problem. I updated to iOS 17.1 on my Gen 7 iPad and have not been successful in getting it working again. I’ve tried everything and the best I can do is get it to play a few songs before it freezes up again. I spent hours with Apple Support to no avail. It’s so frustrating when they flat out won’t admit it’s screwing up because of the update, always trying to suggest that it’s something on my end. I’m resigned to waiting for the next update, whenever that will be. The response from Apple is nonexistent.

Yep. Same issue. Fire up Apple Music on the iPad, plays two or three tunes, freezes up. It works if I close the app and start it again, but then does the same thing. Irritating. I tried the hard restart, but that didn’t help. Somebody on one of these chat rooms said they’ve spent hours on the phone with Apple to no avail, so I think I’ll avoid that and wait for the next update. The short-term fix for me is to stream from my iPhone, but don’t make we wait too long Apple. Get on it!

After multiple sessions with Apple support, I give up.

When I mentioned to the last Apple rep that there are many references to this problem on Apple support pages, she said Apple “wasn’t aware” there was any problem. Nonsense!

This is the first time since I began using Apple products in the 90s that Apple support has failed to solve my problem.
