Apple Music app freezes after 17.1 update on my iPad

After updating to 17.1 on my iPad Gen 6, the Apple Music app freezes almost immediately upon opening.

Numerous calls to Apple support have been useless: I have deleted and reinstalled the app, hard-restarted the iPad numerous times, completely erased and set up my iPad as new, and still the Music app freezes up.

Naturally I had just paid for entire year’s subscription too.

The app works fine on my iPhone.

Anyone else have this problem after updating?

Here's the solution that worked for me.

Go to Music and DUPLICATE your play list, then delete the original.

Sync to NEW playlist only.

I had the same problem. Went as far as buying 10th gen iPad because I was out of memory anyway, however the problem was still there. Did the above and all is well.

Then updated iPhone SE to 17.1 and had same problem with music. Followed the above and that now works also. Hope all of you have the same results.

My experience with this bug isn’t quite the same, but no less annoying. I can sometimes get it to play music, then I can’t do anything else. Pause, skip, album info, tapping on anything results in nothing! The only way to “fix” it is to close the app, and the music continues playing for a considerable amount of time even after closing the app! And that’s on a good day!

I have the same exact problem in my my 7th Generation iPad. Plays a few song then locks up. I did all the same steps I have seen in this post and the replies with the same results. Music works fine on my iPhone 13 so far. I reached out to Apple through the support app. Hopefully this post and replies gets some results. Everything else on my iPad is fine. Maybe after customers try to use Apple Music for their Thanksgiving celebrations the problem will get more attention.

After the 17.1 update, everything looked normal at first and then I tried playing a few songs and that's when I noticed it acting weird. Freezing, jumping tracks, unable to click, and the only solution to all of this is exit the app and come back in again. It's ridiculous to re-launch the app for every song. I tried resetting the ipad, erase and reset, uninstall external apps, restoring the ipad from itunes, uninstall and reinstall itunes, customer care phone support, stand on my head, but nothing works. I never thought I'd complain about an apple product but apparently, here I am cause there's always a first. Hate this is happening with Apple products. Please fix this asap, apple. We're paying you for the device, music subscription, what else do you need to fix your bugs?

I am also experiencing this issue and it’s so frustrating!! Straight after the update I accessed the Music app on my 6th gen iPad and the first 2 or 3 songs play but then I notice my library isn’t loading, then pause/ touch function doesn’t work. I am not risking deleting my Music app and losing my library but have tried everything else - force reset etc. It’s a relief to see that others are also affected by this. I’m really hoping update 17.1.2 resolves this issue Apple as I’m not a happy customer!

UPDATE - updated to 17.1.2 - no improvement

UPDATE - went to the apple store & spent time with a "Genius" ..... his assessment - battery degraded (80%) & the iPad is now being throttled & can't handle the up graded application.

My cynical super sense were triggered -

The iPad is no more sluggish that it ever was & why is it just the MUSIC App thats affected, he was a nice guy & I just wasn't in the mood to get into it with him - I grew up in the countryside I know BS when I see it.

Yes, it happens to me all the time, and it is very annoying. The fact that it's intermittent is also frustrating. It can be working fine, but then, from out of nowhere, it just shuts down. Pages won't load, songs won't play, and the screen freezes. I've tried many things, but none have worked. No issues on my iPhone X, just my iPad Pro. The fact that issues began immediately after the IOS upgrade makes me convinced it is an Apple problem, but I haven't seen anything from them verifying the problem. Thanks for posting
