Apple Music app freezes after 17.1 update on my iPad

After updating to 17.1 on my iPad Gen 6, the Apple Music app freezes almost immediately upon opening.

Numerous calls to Apple support have been useless: I have deleted and reinstalled the app, hard-restarted the iPad numerous times, completely erased and set up my iPad as new, and still the Music app freezes up.

Naturally I had just paid for entire year’s subscription too.

The app works fine on my iPhone.

Anyone else have this problem after updating?

Here's the solution that worked for me.

Go to Music and DUPLICATE your play list, then delete the original.

Sync to NEW playlist only.

I had the same problem. Went as far as buying 10th gen iPad because I was out of memory anyway, however the problem was still there. Did the above and all is well.

Then updated iPhone SE to 17.1 and had same problem with music. Followed the above and that now works also. Hope all of you have the same results.

I was wondering when someone would actually call them out. I did the same thing. On and off phone with support for 3 nights. Still same issue. So since I have more than one device I’ve temporarily removed Apple Music until they fix the problem. They know. They too proud to admit it. I heard the iPad was suffering with sales. Guess this is the way they intend to sell more. Not me. This has cured me for now.

Apparently they aren't doing a thing. At my last session that resulted in failing to resolve the problem, I mentioned to the rep that Apple Support was rife with complaints about the music app failing to work on iPads after the last update. She claimed Apple wasn't aware of any problems.

This is the first time Apple has failed to resolve a problem and I've used Apple products since the mid-90s.

Same with me….. This bug is infuriating….. I am paying for Apple Music and it wont work….. I’ve tried everything from restarting to factory settings to reinstalling app….. The sales people at Apple are not software engineers so they don’t understand…… It’s kind of funny when you ask them basic questions about products and they have no idea, yet, so confident with their answers….lol. Honestly, I think Apple did this to older iPads on purpose to force purchasing a newer iPad……. Last year, I updated my iPhone X, the next day, it went into a restart cycle and never worked again….. Apple will do this to older devices that are on their last update cycle…… Forcing you to purchase a newer product. I don’t think they even care about fixing this bug…….it’s been over a month….. O yea, the person whom said delete your old playlist and then duplicate it and blah blah blah…….Yea, that doesn’t work…… I don’t even have a playlist to delete…..lol. My Apple Watch with cellular only lasts for 5-6 hours…..because the battery is so small, and software bug drains battery….Apple changed their updating framework, last year…..and it turned out to be the wrong move…… Steve Jobs would never allow faulty software to the market……It’s kind of humorous….The only time i purchase new devices is when an update destroys my current device….Lastly, is anyone else disappointed in the raising of subscription prices right after a global epidemic? I was going to try Apple Arcade for $4.99 a month……the next day it’s gone up 50%…….They don’t offer good deals for students besides Apple Music….I’m very disappointed with Apple as of late…..

Though helpful I am sure, but vague. You say DUPLICATE your play list in Music. In iTunes? Do you mean only one specific playlist or the entire playlist library? The reason I ask this is because any playlist I go to on my ipad will freeze after playing a few songs. Can't see how Duplicating one playlist will fix the entire library and stop freezing.

There appear to be missing pieces to your solution.

I’m having all kinds of issues trying to get into my music library on my Gen. 6 Ipad. Mine started today (11/21/2023). First thing, the music library loads fine until I go into my list of songs and try a shuffle to listen. Then all of a sudden all my music covers disappear and I can’t get the track that is playing to stop. I have to shut down the app. I have turned off my Ipad and gone into the music app again and am still having issues. Doesn’t matter what aspect of my music library I go into whether it be under Artists, Albums, Songs, etc., not everything lists as if it’s not loading properly. I wish Apple would be a bit more thorough when putting out an update - like TEST every application on every type of device before rolling it out please !!!

Easy solution, but Apple removed my post?!? No idea what the big deal is, hiding the fix from everyone? Why would that be a secret? I tried something that was mentioned in other posts and it worked. Hopefully others can figure it out, or Apple can get their act together. We consumers are paying big $ for the iPads and music subscriptions. We deserve better.
