Updated iPhone 15 Pro Max to iOS 17.1 this evening, now the screen is completely unresponsive and I cannot open the phone at all

About 3 hours ago, I decided to update my iPhone to iOS 17.1. It seemed to go through the update as normal, but when it turned back on, the screen has become completely unresponsive. I can do nothing at all on it, anywhere on the screen. It's completely dead apart from the side buttons. I have tried to reboot it quite a few times using the volume buttons and then the power, which solve nothing.

The phone is not even a month old yet, so all this aggravation is quite poor to be happening already. Any advice to get this up and running is appreciated.

The "Up, Down, Side" instructions require some precision:

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME UP

     then

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME DOWN

     then

  • Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (15-30 seconds), ignoring "slide to power off" if it appears

The operative word here is QUICKLY; and try it a couple of times, the timing is a little tricky. If done correctly this will always work unless the phone has a hardware problem.

Hi Lawrence, thank you for your reply. I have tried this on numerous occasions already though and unfortunately it doesn't solve the issue. The screen remains completely unresponsive. This only happened after I installed the latest iOS, prior to the install the phone was in perfect working order. As it should be, considering its not even four weeks old yet!!
