Declining Exchange calendar invitation from iOS inbox results in sending duplicate invitation
I have now experienced this bizarre bug twice, so I figured I'd report it here. Steps to reproduce:
- Receive an invitation to an exchange calendar meeting via a distribution group (read, not directly to you, but to a distribution group to which you belong.)
- Decline invitation on another platform (desktop in my case, probably in Outlook)
- Notice invitation is still in iOS Calendar inbox (despite being declined in another platform – I think this is related to another bug in how MacOS Calendar handles distribution groups, but I'll report that separately.)
- Decline invitation from iOS Calendar inbox
What happens when you decline the invitation is a new meeting is created at the current time (meaning, the moment you declined the original meeting), copying all the details from the declined meeting, and (this is the important part) sending an invitation to all the recipients of the original meeting. Since this is occurring for meetings from distribution groups, this can be a large number of people, who are suddenly informed that a meeting they were expecting to take place in the future is happening right now!
Furthermore, this new meeting does not appear on the iOS Calendar. In both cases this happened to me I only found out about it when meeting responses started coming to me – I had to launch Outlook in order to cancel the meeting.
Anyone else experience this? Anyone from Apple care to weigh in?
