Unable to update Apple 7 watch...reports some untitled error

When attempting to update my Apple 7 watch either via the ''paired'' iphone or just using the watch without the iphone, the message is: Unable to update error, should update the iphone first. The Phone is up todate !. I have unpaired and reset the watch twice and the same error listing keeps coming up on either method of the update attempts.... today is 10th October 2023, I have been having this problem for a couple of days. I have read all the help files / comments I think (( which in part seem a little antiquated / outdated )). ... Does anybody have some RECENT remedies that I might be able to try to get this thing to function properly.. One question in my mind is: Should the message be something like " No updates available at this time" rather than asking / telling me to update the phone 1st each time I try it ???? Just a passing thought ?.
