iPhone keeps asking for Outlook password

It seems that since updating to iOS 17.1.1 my iPhone 12 Pro keeps asking for my outlook.com email password. I have deleted and recreated the account and rebooted my iPhone but the issue continues. I also deleted the account and re-recreated it as an exchange account (still using the outlook.com address). No help. Any help is appreciated. This is also happening on my iPad running ipados 17.1.1.

After reading the link about basic authentication I found a solution. I removed the account and setup 2 factor authentication for my email account (office 365). Then login using outlook account type NOT MS Exchange account and use MS authenticator app to setup the account on my iphone. Per the apple article basic authentication is being removed for security reasons and rightfully so. This will continue to get worse as apple does not intend to apply a fix for basic authentication but instead make it unsupported.

I wrote earlier of update to 17.3 and refreshing account settings in the Mail app.

That worked fine until it didn’t. Less than 12hours and back to requests for Outlook password every 10 seconds.

Back to this forum for advice. My how the page count has grown here, overnight!

Don’t want Edge or another app to fix something that shouldn’t be broken.

Have used the Network Reset with success this time. Hooray for that.

Agree with others here that the big kid’s cannot play well together in the mighty tech sandbox. Probably never will. It will always be a case of ‘mine is superior to yours’. Unfortunately they continue to evolve away from ‘customer service’. It is almost extinct I think.

Same here, I have done the following:

1) Re-input the password several times. It works for a half a day and stops working asking for the password.

2) deleted the accounts (my live and hotmail accounts both the same issue), rebooted my iphone and recreated them. Same issue.

3) Contacted Microsoft, spent about an hour with them. It is not MS issue. IT IS APPLE ISSUE, once more apple creates update without proper testing and creates more problem.

Please stop saying it MS issue, it is the new update. Both my iphone and IPAD have the same issue.

This has been happening to me using my iPad, and through MULTIPLE iOS updates and versions! I don't use Outlook per se, but my email is configured for my "xxx@live.com" account. To fix "temporarily" - I click CANCEL, the message goes away and everything works fine. About 2 or 3 days later, the message is back and "the FIX" still works fine. This is also happening to a friend of mine who also utilizes a "xxx@live.com" account. I can't believe that there's no way to stop the message, and clicking CANCEL is the only fix!

I do not believe this is an iPhone / iOS issue. I did not upgrade to version 17.3 but the day it was release, and Apple's backend was changed, this message started appearing ..... AGAIN.

This scenario has repeated for each of the 17 releases, regardless of what you use on your i'ish device.

Apple has to fix. Potentially, as one user suggested, an update to your device app might fix. I know I'm certainly getting tired of this. I installed the Outlook mail app to use when I cannot count on one of the largest, if not the largest, tech companies in the world to deliver a functioning mail app.

It’s not true! The prompt is just a ghost!

For the first couple of weeks this happened, I carefully entered my password every time. After a while, I said screw this, and just canceled.

i can still get my mail. It keeps happening, but I still cancel and still get all my mail.

When you go into Settings, Mail, Accounts, if it really needed your password, there would be a prompt on that account. There is none.

is this a virus? Sure acts like one!!

Easier, but still driving me nuts.
