iPhone keeps asking for Outlook password

It seems that since updating to iOS 17.1.1 my iPhone 12 Pro keeps asking for my outlook.com email password. I have deleted and recreated the account and rebooted my iPhone but the issue continues. I also deleted the account and re-recreated it as an exchange account (still using the outlook.com address). No help. Any help is appreciated. This is also happening on my iPad running ipados 17.1.1.

I had a live.com account that was giving the pop-up (but still loading messages in Mail) so I knew the password was entered correctly. What fixed it for me was re-adding it as an Outlook account in Mail Settings, rather than Microsoft Exchange. Not exactly your issue but possibly related.

My iPhone 13 with the 16.7 operating system was operating fine until last week. It now continually asks for the Microsoft Outlook Exchange password. I enter it and it keeps asking. In addition, now if I enter an appointment or contact on my iPhone, it no longer syncs and updates to Outlook. If I enter a new appointment or contact in Outlook, then it eventually updates to my iPhone as long as I keep entering the Outlook password multiple times. Strangely enough, email seems to be working OK in all of this other than always being asked for the Exchange password. I doubt this is a Microsoft issue. Apple - please respond and let us know what's going on and when to expect a fix

Thanks for trying! I think it does make sense. Microsoft isn't going to let users bypass their legal department simply by using the iPhone app.

Microsoft should be sending out email notifications to get people to adopt new T&C.

Apple should not assume that login has completely successfully when the account isn't in a usable state (ie T&C hasn't been accepted).

And unlike the other accounts, there seems to be no way to update my password on my iPhone. I see the four accounts on the others. I click in the name click on my name again and there’s an opportunity to update the password in settings.

But when I click on the Outlook account under my name, nothing happens. Over the years the location for updating your password or the network settings on the phone or computer has changed multiple times which gets a little confusing but I can see where I can do it right here in the phone for my Gmail accounts but not outlook.

Checking the new Outlook agreement sounds promising. I logged into my Microsoft account and found the Microsoft Services Agreement. It states you automatically agree to it if you use any of the items after September 30th. Can you specify if this is the agreement you are referring to as there is no way to accept or decline it.

Folks...I think i have a solution. After 6 hours on the iphone with Apple Support and a ticket to their engineering, they told me the issue was caused by "antivirus" apps on my phone. They asked me to remove Norton, Norton VIP and Fing. I did this skeptically but was desperate. Anyway, I'm 3 days in and everything is working great.

Worth a try, worst case you add back those apps.

Shoot! I thought this was the silver bullet for everyone.

I spent a bunch of time on the phone with Apple Support. After hours and hours, they finally had me send a diagnostic to them which an engineer reviewed and picked out 3 apps (two of which I had no idea were considered to be antivirus). The only thing I can suggest is that you have them do the same. Maybe you have similar apps that are considered to be antivirus and dont know it

Best of luck...

Thank you for starting this thread. I have had the same problem on my iPhone for more than one iOS update. My experience is that Microsoft office 365 constantly asks for re-authentication for adding apps on outlook on the Mac, as well as re-adding accounts and authentication on iPhone devices. While, this might be an Apple problem, hypothesis is that this started with a release from Microsoft on office 365 within the last six months.

RESOLVED for me, anyway (read below)! Ok...this drove me absolutely nuts! My 14 Pro Max was replaced under warranty...a phone I had not updated since it was new a year ago (sorry but if it ain't broke I'm not updating and even if it is, I think 5 times before updating-too many times features are lost in updates!!!). I love how we are told it is a hotmail/Microsoft issue...that is completely wrong...none of my older iphones have problems...they are not on ios17xxx@! I don't like having to install apps that I don't plan to use just to fix problems, but in this case I did. I have 8 different hotmail accounts and every time I would open the mail app on my iPhone it would blow up with re-enter password prompts TWICE for each of them!!! I would hit cancel on each and they would pop up again for each. Ok, here's what worked for me:

(iPhone 14 Pro Max running IOS 17.0.1)

1) SETTINGS --> GENERAL --> TRANSFER OR RESET IPHONE --> RESET --> RESET NETWORK SETTINGS

2) Install EDGE from App Store, add hotmail accounts in EDGE; checking 'stay logged in on this device' for each

3) SETTINGS --> MAIL --> ACCOUNTS --> re enter passwords for each affected account.

4) Tested, all working fine.

5) Delete EDGE app.

All working fine since...why, I am not sure?! (crossing my fingers)

I hope this helps someone else.

Good Luck All!
