“AApp” randomly appeared in App Library with a logo that has white background and a target-shaped icon

Just want to know what “AApp” is, what it does, how it came to be on my apps list in the App Library search bar for a split second, then when I went to click on it, it gave me a site that had no information to what it is, then when I went back to the App Library search bar again, it was gone.

the same logo/icon then appeared over my notes logo/icon.

I happen to have a mac that was syncing Screen Time data across, and I took a dive on there to see if anything matched.

com.apple.secureelementservice.aapp.plist exists on the system, as a user preference property list, with the only property appearing to be SBIconVisibility (set to false for me), which I can only imagine refers to an icon in the status bar. This would most likely be tied to some apple pay thing, though it showing up as an app in the App Library on iOS is absolutely not something I can find anything on, and weird that it happened.

After disabling lockdown, letting the app activity sync back to my iOS devices, i see the AApp come back in the Misc section, which I speculate to be something running on my mac. given the nature of the plist (despite it being in userland) i suspect AApp stands for "Apple App" internally, though I haven't seen used anywhere else like that.

I hope this helps someone! I would love a more concrete answer from someone at Apple familiar with the matter!

Mine never showed in the App Library, but instead I found it through trying to set a new ScreenTime App Limit, and it was listed with the same title and icon in the Misc section just before Websites. I enabled lockdown (not that it helps a ton with post-exploitation) but this forum post here is the only mention of something same/similar occurring. After lockdown, it was gone and I can't find it anymore, not in ScreenTime and definitely not in the App Library.

I'm not an expert but it reads as fishy even if it is a system app. When I get some time i'm hoping to comb through analytics logs and see if I can find a mention, but I have a feeling it will end up like this.

Maybe it is. But it’s the possible typo that made me iffy, alongside no information available upon opening, aswell as the “AApp” disappear as I go back to where I first found it. However, upon research I found that if abbreviated, AApp can mean a lot of nonsense (American Association of Psychiatric Physicians, Assistant Association for Political Prisoners, American Academy of Private Physicians, etc.) there was just one that may have piqued my concerns, that’ll be “Assisted Appraisal Processing Program.” It’s basic rundown is as Follows:

Purpose. To implement Section 7 of Public Law 116-23, Blue Water Navy Vietnam

Veterans Act of 2019 (the Act). This section authorizes the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Secretary to issue guidance explaining the conditions under which VA permits VA fee panel appraisers to rely on information provided by another person when making appraisals for

VA’s home loan guaranty program.
