How to make mac the default backup device rather than the iCloud?

I have poor internet connection. Using iCloud for backing up is impractical. I tried it once, after several days only a small portion of my phone had been backed up. So I went back to using my mac for backup. Each time I connect iPhone to mac, the backup has reverted to iCloud. How can I configure the finder backup to mac as default? Mac is running Sonoma 14.1.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.4

Have you tried to go into

settings->(your account)->apple id->iCloud backup

and uncheck backup, the it will only have the option of backup to your computer
