In short, yesterday the Apple Genius of Geniuses at the

Denver, CO store told me, Apple is working the issue and not to use the car

wireless charge, because the NFC chip is overheating and shutting down the

wireless charging. Continuous use of the car wireless changer will damage the

iPhone.

The longer story, my brand-new iPhone 15 Pro (iOS 17.1.2) does

this with my 2023 GMC Sierra HD. My old iPhone 12 works perfect with my truck,

even with iOS 17.1.1 & 17.1.2. On Saturday I spent 3.5 hours on the phone

with Apple support troubleshoot the issue and gathering diagnostic logs. The

interesting thing is that for 3 of those hours the iPhone was docked on the

truck wireless charger and just about ever 5 minutes the wireless charging

would connect for 5 seconds. Then yesterday I happened to be in an Apple store,

so I went in and asked them about the issue. That is when I was told more in-depth

about the issue and not to place the iPhone on the truck’s wireless charging

area because it may fry the NFC chip.

Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Hi Allison,

I had the same issue as many did. iOS 17.2 fixed it for most. I don’t know what’s going on with your phone but the link above I placed above is where you report what’s happening with your phone and car. Please feel free to copy and share the link so others may report it. I still get these emails and see some people are still having problems.

Hope this helps. Merry Christmas.

I just bought a 15 two nights ago and I’m experiencing this problem in my 2023 Cadillac Escalade. After reading through everybody’s comments, I’m inclined to return the phone because I spoke to an Apple representative and they were none the wiser on this situation, and it didn’t instill a lot of confidence in me that they are going to fix this anytime soon, or even recognize it as a problem. They told me to talk to my car manufacturer, which I did, and they have nothing to offer. Which I don’t believe it’s my car issue because my older iPhone was charging just fine in the car. I tried updating to 17.2, and that did not fix it. I also tried some of the other recommendations of turning off the charging optimization and/or clean charging and neither fixed it.

I still have my old phone because I left with a new phone and the old phone in order to transfer my data over to the new phone, so I’m inclined just to return this phone because I’m at a loss right now.

any updates or thoughts from anyone else?

So why doesn’t Apple acknowledge the issue already? I called Apple support and they said they didn’t know how to troubleshoot my truck, insinuating it was my 2024 Buick Encore GX Avenir, and to bring it to the dealer that it was GM’s issue. I told Apple then that my iPhone 14 Pro Max charged fine when I got the truck on Sept. 10th and my iPhone 15 Pro Max when I got it on Sept. 22nd. Then iOS 17.1.1 came out to fix BMW’s problem and my phone stopped charging in my truck. This was about a month ago or so. I did bring it to the dealer and they ran diagnostics on my truck and everything was fine. They even charged an iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro work phone the tech had and 2 android phones in my truck. They had it 3 days. I go to pick it up and I place my iPhone 15 Pro Max on it and it did the infamous 5-10 second charge and stopped. They told me to call Apple. I’ve owned every iPhone that Apple ever made and I’m on the iPhone upgrade program, own a 2022 MacBook Air, bought usb-c AirPods Pro when I already had last years model, this fall bought a Apple TV, have 2 of them and have never been aggravated as I am now with this nonsense. I reported this issue twice and even left the link for reporting it up above because others didn’t know where to report it and reading your post just got me infuriated with them. Cmon Apple, fix this problem and at least acknowledge it.

It's not just GM vehicles, the same thing is happening on my wifes 2024 Subaru Crosstrek.

At the dealer just two days ago and one of the sales guys came out and tried both his iPhone 11 and 14 and both charged just fine. The wife's 15 Pro Max sits there for about 10 seconds and then the charge indicator starts flashing an error.

Come on Apple, quit breaking **** with your updates ..... My Galaxy S23 Ultra charges just fine in the Crosstrek btw.

I had an iPhone 13 pro max and it worked fine with my wireless charger in my 2024 Subaru Crosstrek. I switch over to the iPhone 15 pro max due to the promotion and now even if it doesn't have case it will disconnect after a certain amount of time. I tried 5 different cases including the apple case and still nothing works. And I mean I tried sitting in my charge with a timer seeing how long it would take to disconnect with each case and without a case. I looked into seeing if it was due to different material used to make the new phone but I see everyone is having an issue. At this point I am no longer able to use my wireless phone charger and I miss it. I loved having no wires in my car. I hope this is fixed soon :(

same issue here. Tried to turn off optimization and no differences. My car charger will not work at all with my thin case and only charges at a rate of maybe 1% every 5min if I don’t have apps running without the charger. I tried my old 13mini and it charges 1% a min so definitely something wrong with the 15pro. I have also taken my car into the dealership as it’s a 2023 corolla crossover with only 10K miles.
