Sonoma 14.1.1 won’t install on Ventura 13.5.2

Since many weeks I get messages repeating that an update (about Safari*) will be performed later at night… which never occurs.

* When I ask details it says it’s about macOS “Sonoma 14.1.1”.

WORSE: when I ask MANUALLY to install the update I receive: “Passcode is not set.”

(without indicating how or where to get this passcode).

What to do?

Mac mini, macOS 13.5

Sorry my mistake. I got the error message “Passcode is not set” while I was logged in under SONO(= main user with all privileges) instead of MACKIE (= admin account).

Of course the error message is wrong (as in far too many cases), let alone that it gives a clue of what’s really going on.

I logged in to MACKIE and all went fine.

So now I’m on Sonoma 14.1.1

CASE CLOSED.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Is there any way to correct the title?

And is there way to get rid of 2 hardware items (twice a mac mini) collected to may name? Or to be sure which one is mac mini M2 and which is the older one (anno 2011)?

When you initially set up your computer you were required to set up a user ID and a computer password. Note: this can be optioned in settings to be automatically entered for you at startup. Certain functions such as installing a new operating system require that you enter the computer's password. Apparently you did not save it. Now you will need to click the link below and create new information. This time, write it down and store the information in a safe place.

Thank you but I really get confused which dubious terminology:

Q1. When you write “computer password” do you mean the password of the “Admin account”?

Q2. IDEM for the article’s terminology: when the article indicates “Mac login password” do they mean “computer password” or the password of the “Admin account”?

Q3. I never heard the computer itself should have a password, or do I misunderstand?

Q4. And if it is the mac mini itself which should have a password, how to install it?

If I need to change the password of any of my 3 users, I can simply do this via “Users & Groups“ in “System Setting”, so I’m afraid the computer itself should have a password.

IN CASE IT HELPS: I have a secure APPLE ID and PASSWORD (how else could I have entered an issue in this Community?) and the macOS Ventura was installed by a professional team.

The Mac Mini (M2) was new April 2023. The old macOS was not (sept. 2011), as well as all applications and data: there were coming from El Capitan (on an old mac mini).

Thanks for clarifying.

I do not understand why you tell me this. Doesn't everybody knows? I know, so what's the use of writing me this???

I guess I don't know what you were asking when you asked what password to use.

Q1. When you write “computer password” do you mean the password of the “Admin account”?

I thought you were asking which password to use when you try to install, but I guess when you asked what password to use you really were asking something entirely different.
