iPhone 12 absolutely no notifications after upgrading to iOS 17.1.1

I upgraded my iPhone 12 Pro to iOS 17.1.1 in this morning. Now I don't get any notifications (sounds, icons, previews, etc.) from any apps. I've done a lot of researchs and tried everything but still no notifications.

You need to fix this asap! It is negatively affecting my work.

I also encountered the same error with my iphone 12 pro max. After upgrading to iOS 17.1.1, no any notifications from all apps. I have tried resetting the iphone (data and network) as well as restarting the iphone several times, but still not worked.

Hopefully Apple can fix this error and release the patch via next updated version as soon as possible.

Both reply/solutions didn't work for me on an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Anyone else has any apparently working solutions? Bug report filed but I don't expect a fast turnaround.

PS. Craig Federighi really needs to stop allowing bugs like this slip through to production. Whatever happened to the one-week new dev pause that was supposed to fix, not introduce new bugs in iOS and macOS?

Hi,

Resetting iPhone or network settings and deleting apps and re-installing those are all interim solutions. Seems the phone works for a while.

BUT, as soon as I switch 5G off and rely only 4G, or make any changes to location tracking settings or network/roaming settings --> Problems occurs once again.

Seems that with iOS 17.1.1 you need to allow default settings or you can't use your phone. This is my current feeling.

I hope I have found the solution to Messages and Texts not notifying you after downloading iOS 17.1.1 or 17.1.2

swipe from top right corner to open control center

you will probably see a moon and Focus

tap focus

tap Work, scroll to very bottom and tsp Delete Focus

tap Sleep, scroll to the very bottom and tap Delete Focus

also make sure DND is off (dark gray)

I think this has opened up all incoming notifications.

So, here is a very, very interesting update.

Since, update to 17.1, notifications stopped for all apps that used, or could use, Face ID. For all other apps, notifications continued to work.

This continued through 17.2.

No workaround worked for me, and the issue continued.

I have just upgraded to 17.3 - and guess what - notifications have started for all those apps for which they had stopped - all by themselves.

Not one setting was changed. Not one workaround tried. Only the upgrade to 17.3,

I think this conclusively peoves the issue was a bug in 17.1 and 17.2,

At least it's fixed.

They just came out with a patch in 17.3. I have been working hand in hand with Apple support for the last several months. In my case I never even updated the os before I had the issue. I have not updated to 17.3 yet because they wanted me to try one other thing. At this point the only thing that worked was to reset the phone and then delete the apps and reinstall. This happened under 17.2.1.

what they asked me to do yesterday did not work and I have not yet had time to update the os. So it still remains to be seen.

Sorry to hear that you are still suffering from this extremely frustrating failure with Apple, wrdwmm. So many users are suffering and yet Apple remains silent - much like their Notifications !!

Take a look at Face ID for your diagnostics - if you haven't already. For me, all apps that stopped sending Notifications were ones that had Face ID, either set ON or not being used. All apps that continued to send Notifications did not have Face ID functionality. And that was consistent across over 350 apps - so there must be something in it.

My suspicion was that an app with Face ID functionality was somehow waiting for a Face ID verification before sending its Notification. However, quite how that can be is highly questionable.

That said, as I previously posted, iOS 17.3 (and now 17.3.1) fixed it for me on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Agree with williamfrombinfield that Apple is LONG overdue to address this issue. For me it has continued across two years, two separate iPhones and numerous iOS updates.

nidal.shami, if you have an Apple Watch, some users have reported that they have to choose which device (Watch or iPhone) should receive notifications.

Others have found a variety of workarounds (restart, reinstall system), but the only thing that has helped me at all (13 Mini) is turning off Bluetooth on the handset.

Engineering-wise I can't understand why a user should have to choose between Bluetooth connectivity and having your phone actually ring when someone calls. And alas, for me even this solution is only about 70%: yesterday with Bluetooth off, I still missed several critical messages.

Now thousands of Community postings, a $700+ device that fails where a flip phone succeeds, years of user time and effort going to waste? Maybe another avenue DOJ should investigate.

So I worked with apple support for sometime on this problem. In a nutshell it is not necessarily the OS but a third party that they use for notifications. It does appear to be apps that use facial recognition that are affected. They tried to fix with 17.3 but nope. Btw I started having the problem before the upgrade to any 17 OS. That’s why it made sense that it was 3rd party that was preparing for the OS upgrade. I spent 20+ yrs in IT so I’m cognizant of some issues that can present.

The only solution at this point is to reinstall the apps that are affected. That worked for me. So that’s what I know.

wrdwmn - many thanks for your support.

I hope the reinstall works for you - it didn't for me! I tried every single solution posted on Community, others I found across the web, and some of my own - none worked for me. The only solution that worked for me was the update to 17.3. However, many others have confirmed that the update to 17.3 did not work for them.

It is clearly complex and convoluted. Nevertheless, Apple MUST fix as a matter of priority - see my reply to Workinsanity.

That reset did not work for me either.

The only thing that has helped is turning off Bluetooth on the iPhone. (In Settings, near the top, with the BT icon, just switch to "Off.")

Obviously that complicates any BT functions, but now I get most if not all sound notifications.

I'm also mindful about using the "silent" button -- usually restart when I switch it back on.

Been tempted to go android myself, it may happen yet. A phone that doesn't ring is a real problem.
