iPhone 12 absolutely no notifications after upgrading to iOS 17.1.1

Sorry to hear you are yet another victim of Apple's poor iOS updating.

As you may have read, this happened to me after updating to iOS 17. I tried everything - there was absolutely no solution. It was not fixed until iOS 17.3.

Like you, I've very recently updated to iOS 17.4.1 and - probably more by luck then Apple's design - so far at least, notifications continue to work (iPhone 15 Pro Max).

100s, if not 1000s, have suffered from this issue following various updates. And yet, Apple have remained silent - much like their notifications😱. Why Apple is not addressing this incredibly serious issue is beyond me.

So, I'm sorry to say, in my considerably experience researching and trying to resolve this issue, I think most likely you are going to have to wait until the next iOS update and hope that fixes it - or, if you have a backup, revert back to before the update if that is possible.

After much troubleshooting, I'm convinced that this issue is related to Face ID. For me, all apps that incorporated Face ID - whether enabled or not - were the ones where notifications stopped working. All other apps that did not incorporate Face ID continued to send notifications as normal.

It would be interesting to hear if that is the case for you?

Clear you Notification History:

1. Go here: Use notifications on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
2. Scroll to: Open from Notification Center
3. As it Reads: To clear your notification history, tap the Close button, then tap Clear

This happened on my iPhone 12 Pro when I upgraded too. I have reset my phone twice now and still no luck. I've made sure all the notifications are turned on when I reopen all apps after the restart but still nothing. It's negatively effecting my work too as I need to constantly check work related apps to make sure I haven't missed anything important. Any other ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same problem with my wife's iPhone 12. None of the solutions in this thread have worked. There is another thread, dating back to 2020, regarding the same problem, mostly on the iPhone 12 models. None of the "solutions" on that thread worked for me either. Is it possible that this is a hardware problem?

My wife’s phone has this problem too. Here is what I did. For WhatsApp if you use , first you need to ask your friends to send text message via iMessage to your iPhone, if you receive notification, then send you whatsapp, pls make sure WhatsApp is not swiped away. It has to be on since the background refresh doesn’t seem to work. If this works, then you may Reset all settings under General> transfer or reset iPhone (special note: not erase, don’t mess up this part. You will need to setup all your notification setting for each app and wifi etc. after that) Then for those apps that you don’t receive the notification, delete it and reinstall, at this stage some are working, however, some are not still. Hope it helps

I had the same problem. Absolutely no notifications on IOS 17.1.1! Spoke to apple support and after a bit of troubleshooting, they asked me to take backup, restore the OS and then restore from backup.

That worked!

Unfortunately I lost ALL of my WhatsApp chat/video/everything history this way. WhatsApp does not have automatic backups and when uninstalling and reinstalling the app everything was lost. Truly tragic. Wish I never updated to iOS 17.1.1. Rand STILL no notifications while also losing everything in WhatsApp.

Spent about an hour on the phone with Apple and reset everything after two days of completely missing every notification and call. Now it’s working again. Only after my entire WhatsApp history was deleted when uninstalled and reinstalled every app. Terrible update.

Wait until phone start, wait a moment...... Restart your phone again... and try your apps.

Open refresh your apps, force stop (Slide Up, close your app), re-open app again.

I have the same problem. I have deleted and reinstalled apps and done everything proposed here, but still having issues with iPhone 12 and iOS 17.1.1.

Notifications and sounds not working or could be popping up 30min late. Also some apps freeze and need to open and close several times before they work.

I have the same problem for my iPhone 11. Only Apple Calendar alerts are being shown. Replies to Messages app messages that I send from my MacBook are going to my laptop but not my iPhone. This did not happen before the upgrade. Push notifications from my Authenticator app used to appear in the home screen but now I have to open the app to get them. What is going on?

Apps freeze ans notifications not happening on time. Works every now and then, but not all the time.

Clearly this is a real thing, because so many are experiencing the same.

I recommend calling Apple support. They were able to remote in to my phone (even though the notification for the access didn’t come through until the third thing he tried and after multiple system network resets etc) and do a bunch of things that eventually fixed the bug.

The support person I spoke to ended up calling me back four times in order to fix the problem (and calls also were not coming through) but eventually he was able to resolve the issue. It’s a huge headache and took about an hour in total but now everything is working again.
