iPad Pro charging problem after 17.1.1 update

Still waiting for a decision from the Senior advisor my complaint was escalated to?

Mine won’t charge ever since new update. I have the 2nd generation and it’s useless now

Spoke with Apple they want £480 plus vat for a service of the iPad. Really disappointing considering the price and I would expect it to last a number of years

Exact same problem. Two iPad Pros 3rd Gen purchased 3/2020 and 5th Gen purchased 6/2022. Both have charging problems. It's not the iOS 17 as I have not upgraded to that yet.

Come on Apple... this new update broke my iPad. It is no longer charging and was working fine before the update.

For me, it's been an intermittent problem, with a 5th gen iPad. After updating to the latest IOS (17.2?), the iPad refused to charge. It says that it is charging, the charger and cable work fine, but no charge occurs. the battery just runs down until it shuts off.

Took it to the Genius Bar last week and they said it was dead and not worth fixing. Just buy a new one!

Brought it home, AND IT CHARGED to 100%. And worked fine for a few days. Now it's not charging any more.

Tonight, it ran dead (even though the charging icon was displayed at all times). Then seemed to refuse to charge. Now it is stuck with the Apple startup icon displayed. I do a system reset, and it eventually started. Showing a 2% change, charging icon displayed, so that makes me think that the charger is working. It seemed to be operating properly. Now 1% charge, in low power mode. I expect it to die any minute. Dead. Back to the red line battery.

one more attempt... stuck on the apple icon again. reset.... 1% power, says charging, dead again.

I have feedback from the agent that took the IPAD in, blaming it on the USBC port being broken. But when I said that it doesn’t charge either via the 3 dots at the back connecting to the apple keyboard… their argument flat footed. Awaiting a new IPAD for free under Apple Care.

Have just had the same charging problem with my ipad over the last week. It will show charging, but the percentage just slowly goes down. Tried the usual things, checking the port, (but it shows its charging) so dont think the port is the problem. Also good power supply (which previously worked well and works well on other devices), rated to easly charge the ipad. Switched to other power supply, and same problem.

Just phoned my wife who is away visiting relatives for the week and found she has been trying to trouble shoot the same problem on her ipad. Seems very coincidental that two ipads purchased a year apart (but same model) are having the same problem.

I have received the replacement IPAD Pro 11 inch 2nd generation, same model as before and upgraded it on a full charge to 17.2 and it seems to function properly so far. I will however have to let it deplete the battery to zero and see if its going to charge from complete depletion. Stay tuned. F.

Anyone find a fix to this? I’ve just encountered the same problem. iPad was on 5% battery, put it on charge reached 10% stopped and now it’s dying a slow painful death. iPad Pro gen 1. Worked perfect until today. (No debris in the charging port, checked a number of cables etc. also tried them on other devices with no issues)

My older 10.2 9th gen Ipad stopped charging and i decided to just get a new one. The new one stopped charging 7 days after purchase and had to return. The second one has stopped charging as of this morning and will have to return again. Clearly, this is way more than just a hardware issue.

iPad mini 6 here. Same thing, tried every combo of cords and plugs (Desktop, phone, iPad, AirPods... all Apple ecosystem!), it just sadly blinks the red dead battery at me with a sad cord icon wanting to charge! Is the Genius Bar the only hope?

While I understand this may beyond the scope, I was merely trying to thank another poster for their suggestion because it helped me get back online with my iPad. My warranty expired and the only other option was to buy a new one or pay $500 and since I don't have to do that, I wanted to thank the person that posted the suggestion. Your follow up was unnecessary and beyond the scope of me wanting to say thanks.

I have 12.9 5th Gen and have been having similar issue. It’s been hit and miss since the update. Went through several charger cable combos and it was still hit and miss. What works one minute doesn’t work the next. Never had a single issue with this iPad.

i tried power off then back on then plug in and nothing. But if i plug in while powered off… the logo comes up and I’m charging again. Clearly a software issue since this update. Apple is apparently trying hard to make us replace our perfectly good (very expensive) iPads.

I have two iPad Pro 12.9 that are 2018 and 2019. They both started having charging issues after the update to 17. The 2018 one I was able to continue charging by charging with the Magic Keyboard. The 2019 one is completely bricked.

The 2018 one has now stopped charging with the Magic Keyboard. I have also tried multiple different chargers and cables, including the one from my newest iPad and my MacBook Pro. None of these will work.

Seems very odd that two iPads around the same age both stopped charging around the same time. I bought a new iPad because I use it for work, but now I have two others sitting at home not useable!
