Sony WY-1000MX3 headphones not connecting to Macbook

My headphones no longer connect to my Macbook (its been months). When trying to connect the two, I hear the "Bluetooth pairing" notification but I never hear the "Bluetooth connected" notification from my headphones. This is despite the headphones being discoverable. I've also gone to Systems Preferences -> Bluetooth and it says my headphones are in fact "connected".

I don't think this is an issue with the headphones because it connects to other devices. This has frankly been an issue with Macbooks for a while, had the same issue with a bluetooth speaker.

Anybody have any solutions that worked for them? I've done the restart, re-pairing, etc. but nothing has worked.

If you have an iPhone or Android, install the free Sony Headphones Connect software and see if your Sony headphones require a firmware update before they will pair with your Mac.

Although you should hear "Power on" and "Bluetooth Connected" there is something going on. On the macOS Bluetooth settings panel, right-click on that headphone entry and select Forget. Cycle power on your fully charged headphones. Then with your Mac's Bluetooth enabled, repeat Sony's recommended pairing process for these headphones.

You don't state what version of macOS you have installed.

I have both Sony WF-1000XM4/WH-1000XM4 devices which work correctly with macOS Big Sur and later (currently Sonoma 14.1.1).
