My iPhone 15 ProMax in CarPlay mode freezes (disconnect)

My newly purchased IPhone 15 ProMax disconnects from CarPlay while using Map or talking on the phone. This problem happens in a Ford Edge 2017. My wife experienced the same issue with her IPhone 15 ProMax in a Chevy Equinox 2018. I am not sure if this problem happens in other brand of vehicles. Both cars have USB ports. But we bought USB-to-lightning adapter from Apple Store for the cars. While on phone call or using apple map, the CarPlay freezes and disconnects. The cable has to be pulled out from the phone and replug in back for it to reconnect (a dangerous action if you are the one driving). If on phone call, the connection drops momentarily for about a minute and reconnect if the person on the other end of the phone decides to stay on with you. After reconnecting, the line will drop again and again. So far, no update has resolved the issue.

We never had this issue with our IPhone X before changing to IPhone 15 ProMax. Though, IPhone X cable uses USB port from the car with no lightning adapter.

When using Bluetooth, the phone connection works perfectly only if the cable is not connected. But Bluetooth does not support map display on the CarPlay. I need to use the map on the CarPlay.

Please, advise.

Here are some troubleshooting steps and suggestions that might help resolve the problem:

  1. Ensure your iPhone, Ford Edge's infotainment system, and Chevy Equinox's infotainment system (if applicable) are all updated to the latest software versions. Sometimes, updates include fixes for connectivity issues.
  2. Although you've bought the USB-to-lightning adapter from the Apple Store, try using a different certified cable to connect your iPhone to the car. Sometimes, cables can cause connectivity problems.
  3. In your car's infotainment system, there might be an option to reset CarPlay or reset the system settings. This can sometimes help with connectivity issues.
  4. Ensure the USB ports in the cars are clean and free from debris. Also, check if the ports are delivering sufficient power. Sometimes, using a different USB port can make a difference.
  5. If possible, check if there are any firmware updates available for your car's infotainment system. Sometimes, compatibility issues arise due to outdated car software.
  6. Go to Settings > General > Transfer & Reset > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone. This will reset Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and VPN settings and might help with CarPlay connectivity.
  7. If the issue persists, you can try resetting all settings on your iPhone. This will not erase your data but will reset all personalized settings to their default values. Go to Settings > General > Transfer & Reset > Reset > Reset All Settings and confirm the action. Note that you will need to reconfigure your settings afterward. All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.

    2. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content.
    3. If you want to save your settings, back up your iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.
  8. Make sure you have the latest updates installed.
    1. Update Over-the-Air (OTA) —> Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (IN)
    2. Update using iTunes/Finder —> Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is recommended to reach out to Apple Support or visit an authorized service center for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your device model and iOS version.
