Pages Crashing When Exporting to PDF -- Reboot and other solutions not working

My Pages still continues to crash when trying to export to PDF, despite successfully having exported the very same document just a few months ago. I've tried all previous fixes on here, including rebooting computer, clearing bin and iCloud, using shift when reopening, etc, but still nothing is working.

Is the system down? Does anyone have a solution? I'm using MacBook Air 2020 M1 chip, but it doesn't have the Safe mode equipped. Everything else is up to date in terms of software.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

What version of Pages and what version of the operating system?

Press and hold the shift key on the next launch of Pages as that will suppress its loading its last saved execution state. Then try exporting the Pages document to PDF on the local drive, not a proxy folder for Dropbox, or any other third-party cloud solution. See if the export succeeds.

Hello,

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly!

My Pages version is version 13.2 (7038.0.87) and I recently updated my operating system on Friday to MacOS Sonama 14.1.1

Unfortunately, I've tried saving to my files as well where the original was able to be saved to no avail, including holding the shift key as per earlier advice. The only difference I've noticed with this file is that the page is slightly larger in size by around .25 inches (I'm not sure if that would make any factor at all).

What is not clear is where you were saving when it worked, and if that was prior to upgrading to Sonoma and/or Pages v13.2?

The reason I ask as not too long ago someone else had a saving issue with Pages and it turns out that they were saving to the local folder associated with an incompatible version of Dropbox. Saving elsewhere locally than that Dropbox associated folder fixed the issue. I don't use Dropbox or any other third-party cloud service and I have never had a saving issue with any version of Pages on any prior operating system to include Sonoma 14.1.1.

I also do not have any anti-virus or so-called Mac cleaner applications installed either any or all of which could interfere with normal Pages operation.

The pages were able to be saved prior to Sonoma, both on iCloud and to my drive. The Pages app also crashed on my iPad when trying to export (which has been kept up to date on all versions). I don't have any other third-party services on this either. Nothing seems to be working (I've gone through all other fixes regarding this issue with no solution, from holding shift key, reloading app, resetting, using safe mode, etc etc.)

I hope this issue is able to be fixed as my career is on the line :'( Thanks for trying anyway, much appreciated.

Career? Most corporations have a data and document standard that requires employees use Microsoft Office, and to a lesser extent, LibreOffice suite, not Apple's Pages. Care to expand on how that may apply in your case?

Exporting to PDF crashes Pages v13.2 on both iPadOS and macOS Sonoma? These are not the same application nor operating system, so I have no answer for that, nor can I replicate that condition here.

Yes, my career. I'd rather not have to go into the finer details if you don't mind, but we are not required to use Microsoft Office in my case (and yes, it's a big company that has been around for years, and yes, they have various operating systems and practices in use). Pages are what they have asked for this particular task as there are certain formatting requirements involved. If I can't get this particular document exported on my end to PDF, that's it. Even if it wasn't urgent, Pages should work no matter what, regardless of the purpose. (I do not mind explaining to you in private, though, but I'm not sure that's possible on here--I'd just rather not share the bigger details in a public forum lest I somehow break confidentiality. But yes, this is exactly what is needed in this point in time, and without a known fix and extremely tight deadlines, this really will be impacting everyone.

By that I mean I'm using Pages on both my iPad and on my mac. They will both open the document, but neither will export to PDF without the app crashing, so I know the issue doesn't resonate solely with something going on in my laptop. Both my iPad and my Mac are updated with the latest operating system available and with the latest version of Pages available, as are the editors' devices (same thing with it crashing). My best guess is that there's something corrupted with the file itself, yet as above, it is able to export to word without problem (but again, the formatting is thrown out for what is needed—I thought converting to word and then trying to export it from that document to PDF would somehow work, but I'm no technician).

No worries, you've already done your best to try and understand the situation. I'm really not sure what else there is to do unless there's another fix (and with my luck, it's probably something very simple yet definitely not obvious).

Create a new Pages document on your Mac. Copy/paste the content from the document that will not export to PDF into the new Pages document. If not too herculean, one page at a time and then test its ability to export to PDF. Eventually, it may or may not succeed and then you will know which Page of the original is problematic.

I have never liked creating work for others and don't mention the first paragraph lightly, but in lieu of the original document not exporting to PDF on iPadOS or macOS, your options, and probably your remaining time, are limited. In my own career, I have given up considerable sleep making deadlines with sometimes, the wrong tools dictated by circumstances, so not entirely unsympathetic to your cause.
