Add freeze frame WITHOUT flash

I made and instruction video for my students and realized I didn't allow enough time to speak for one part so I want to freeze the section slightly. I chose Flash and Freeze frame, and it works fine but I don't want the flash part. I moved that to the lowest time setting possible (0.2 s) but it is still obvious to me. Is there a way to remove the fade out/in flash bit? I'm on a Mac desktop OS Ventura 13.6.1.

Much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm running Mojave on this particular computer. The option I get is Modify/Add Freeze Frame, not Flash and Freeze frame. So I don't get a flash when adding a freeze frame. Have you tried trimming out the flash?

A workaround would be to place a marker (Mark/Add Marker) in the timeline at the point in the clip where you want to add a freeze frame. Then export that frame as a frame/image to your desktop. Then import it back in and place it in the upper timeline at the place where you put the marker.

Thank you for that explanation. Seems like a bunch of steps for something I would like to think is simple. I can't imagine I'm the only person who has inquired about this. If I don't receive another reply I will try what you said. I like the idea of trimming out the flash. I can't understand why the two events (flash and freeze) have to be done simultaneously. I can't find anything on Youtube about this either. Weird.
