iPhone SE (3rd gen) suddenly went into a reboot loop.

Saturday morning my iPhone SE (3rd gen) suddenly went into a reboot loop. Force restart (volume up, volume down, hold side button until Apple logo appears) had no apparent effect despite my trying it multiple times. Later in the day it was fine again for about eight hours before going back to reboot loop.

Third-party diagnostics indicated no hardware issues, water damage, etc.

It was working again just now when I (foolishly?) ran a software restore from my Mac (Mini). The setup process hiccuped twice(?), returning to the Hello/Bonjour screen and starting over after only a couple of screens, but eventually it kept going, and I was able to get it up and running.

Question: has anyone else experienced this problem?

Kevin

Update 1: I just finished re-adding my Apple Pay cards, and now it's on "Restore from iCloud".

Update 2 now I'm stuck on a step called "Press home to upgrade". I press the home button, then I'm prompted for the passcode (which is the one from my iPad since i copied the setup from there, I guess?). From there I get a white screen with a black Apple logo and a status bar showing about an eighth of an inch of progress. Then it crashes again and...reloops. Kinda like a video game that remembers my last position...
