MacBook mouse click opens a menu

Do you mean like the Contextual menu...?

This would Control click or right click....

On the force touch trackpad there are settings

>System settings>Trackpad

if you have a mouse try

>System settings>mouse

make some changes and compare your results—

if the mouse is failing replace it
