Macbook air m1 stuck in DFU mode with black screen

If you have a second Mac running macOS Monterey 12.4 or later, complete these steps to revive your MacBook Air. You'll need a supported USB-C to USB-C cable that implements USB - not just Thunderbolt.

If your helper Mac is running macOS Monterey or Ventura: Revive or restore a Mac with Apple silicon using Apple Configurator - Apple Support (CA)

TIP: You can pre-download the Mac firmware so that the revive or restore process goes faster. On your helper Mac, visit https://ipsw.me, select the M1 MacBook Air and the latest firmware for it, and then download that firmware. Once the firmware (IPSW file) is downloaded, put your M1 MBA into DFU mode, connect it to the helper Mac, then drag the IPSW file on top of the large DFU square that appears.

If you got your Mac serviced at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, take it back if these steps don't work as expected. They should easily be able to reinstall system firmware, and charging for it would be ridiculous. Assuming that you're using a supported cable, a strong Internet connection, and the right steps, the only thing blocking a restore (not a revive) would be faulty hardware - which would be on the repair shop to fix.

Probably a hardware problem, then. Contact Apple Support.

On iPhone, those steps would force a restart. It doesn't apply to Macs though.
