Airtag is not updating its location

Hi! I just got an Airtag to use on my cat. And I wonder how the process work for the updating of the current location? I have two Ipads at home and I know that the airtag uses other devices to update it's location with.

So why hasn't this airtag been updated in 6 hours then?

The airtag is not on my cat at the moment, it's on the kitchen table so I know that the airtag is at home. My idea was to use the airtag for my new cat which hasn't been outside before, so when I release him later on I would like to be able to track him. But if the airtag doesn't update itself at home where I have several apple products, how can I be sure it will update if my cat goes missing 1km from my home later on?

I would appreciate if anyone can give me some feedback. The airtag is brand new from the store.
